What do you guys think the best album of the last two years was. And be honest, even if it's something that you're guilty about.

Interesting, interesting. Some good thangs on that list. Although there's one recurring band that I can't stand, but I won't mention who. Alot of love for Green Day, that's good. They're great guys and all that success couldn't have happened to nicer people. Billy even let Dave and I use his house to write some new songs in for this upcoming record.

Any upcoming albums people are excited for? Saves the Day? Muse? Morrissey? Slayer? Radiohead?

Can't wait for these.

Two years? Too far back to remember....but a recent one would be She Wants Revenge.

It came out in January, I've never listened to a CD so many times in my life.

Hard to pick.

A few are:
"Frances the Mute" by The Mars Volta
"Matter + Form" by VNV Nation
"Playing the Angel" by Depeche Mode
"Catch for Us the Foxes" by mewithoutYou

there are so many to choose from. i would go with either one of the Bright Eyes albums, "Digital Ash In A Digital Urn" and "I'm Wide Awake It's Morning," or Elliott Smith's "From A Basement On A Hill." also, The Weakerthans "Reconstruction SIte" is a really good album. and Feist's "Let It Die." i dont think there is any way to choose just one.

I have two, first being Cafe Tacuba's (great mexican folk rock, semi electronic band) Un viaje, which is a collection of all their hits live. And Antics by Interpol(although it was almost three years ago), I don't think that there are many bands out there with as much integrity and talent as Interpol, so its very refreshing to hear their music on the radio and just in general. Plus, Public Pervert is not only one of the greatest songs, it also has one of the best song titles. And I am not ashamed to still listen to the Spice Girls, although that was more than two years ago, but I thought I'd just put that out there.

Got a comment in the top 5.
I guess that's why you get for living on the East Coast.
I must say I thorougly enjoyed Franz Ferdinand's self titled album.
There haven't been too many good albums out.
Lots of older bands have come out with new CDs such as (The Cure, New Order, Depeche Mode, NIN) and even though those are four of my favorite five bands ever I must say they do not compare to their older material.

Green Day

The Dresden Dolls, self-titled album; HelloGoodbye's EP.
The Dolls some how meld genres/themes together that haven't quite been explored. Musically/lyrically, I think they're in a legue all their own. HGB is completely happy-go-lucky pop. Makes you think of sunny afternoons at the beach, flipflops, and laughing til your stomach hurts with friends. They always put a smile on my face.

Hope you had a marvalous (sp?) monday, and that your week will be even better!

This is really, really difficult. Most of the cds I've purchased in the past two years have been replacements for the albums I left in PA. I'm also restricted in listening to certain cds due to environmental issues. I also tend to buy cds and not listen to them completely for several months until the mood is right. I have strange habits.

I think my main answers would be Green Day's "American Idiot" which I think is genius and Interpol "Antics" which I find to be extremely sexy. I was late in enjoying them both.

Two other cds I listen to more than my above choices are The Explosion's "Black Tape" and The Static Age's "Neon Nights Electric Lives."

from Jan '04 to Jan '06?
even if you're embarrassed about it, you said? okay.

== U2's new one. Yeah I said it. I had so much dread that it was going to suck. I fell in love with them in 1984, til I got pissed and walked away in '93, hated them from then til 2002 when the William Orbit mix of Electrical Storm bit me, then I held my breath til HTDAAB came out. It's not -their- best album; they left that behind in the 80s. But in the last two years' crop of records it's a standout. Watching them quietly tearing the music industry down from the inside out is even better.

== Lostprophets 'Start Something'.
Bad idea to drive to this one. Very bad. The energy is what grabs me.. Yes there's a lull or two, but don't get caught bent over sniffing daisies because there's an 18 wheeler round the next bend coming to flatten your ass.

== Ascension of the Watchers 'Iconoclast' EP.

FearFactory and Prong members' Burton C. Bell and John Bechdel's side project. The side of Burt's voice we always knew was there but couldn't be fully freed on FF albums. Fucking gorgeous stuff, haunting and ethereal on some tracks and joyous on others.

Let's see... I'm going to have to think about this...

Alkaline Trio's Crimson- This album got me into this band and I really really love it.

I loved System of a Down's Hypnotise / Mezmerise, although not as good as some of their albums they're still fantastic

Miss Machine by Dillinger Escape Plan is an awesome album, but I can't remember when that came out... I think it was 04 sometime?

And I would have to include Green Day's American Idiot. I'm not a huge fan of pop punk, but this album is (whatever anyone says) very mature and well written. It reached so many people on so many levels and its success definately reflects the work Green Day have put in for the last howevermanyyears. I completely disagree with people who label the band as sell-outs for this album just because it got them popular, because I think it definately shows them maturing and I for one prefer many songs on it to ,uch of their previous work.

Those are a few albums that really stand out... I'm sure there's more I haven't mentioned!

== I'm waiting for the new Lostprophets record with that terrible mix of dread and hope, because they went to a certain producer whose reputation for taking good bands and spinning them into commercial-sounding CRAP is legend...

I don't know about Metallica either. I've always loved them, but their last record sucked. Then I watched some dvd regarding the "making of the monster" or something like that, and found out why. Seems they've turned into a bunch of whiny primadonnas who need high-priced therapists on site just to get along with each other. And Hetfield's aparently straight, sooo... It's a damn shame, but every good thing must come to an end sometime.

I'm very excited for The Falcon's full length.

The new Streetlight Manifesto, the new AFI obviously...

And best albums of the past two years is kind of a mean question. I am terrible at cd release schedules. Big D's - "How It Goes" is pretty excellent. A local Toronto band called The Flatliners are awesome and just re-released "Destroy to Create" on Canada's STOMP records. I don't know when this was released but the Modest Mouse record pretty much owns. The Music's "Welcome to the North" is a good record. Bedouin Soundclash. Elliott Smith. The Decemberists' "Picareque".

But I hope the next two years will be loads better.

shanagdi said...

I'm currently lost in the past listening to Let's Active & desperately trying to get in a better mood.

Obviously, I am anxiously awaiting the new AFI cd. As far as other new cds, I'm interested in hearing Morrissey's new stuff, but I just don't like him as much without Mr. Marr. Recently, I heard that Johnny Marr is working with Modest Mouse. I'm not a big fan of MM, but I'm curious. I've liked what I heard from Angels & Airwaves. I really like Muse. I have fond memories of Slayer, but that's a story on its own.

As for upcoming albums, I can't WAIT for Morrissey, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TG, Saves The Day, the Static Age<3, ERASURE!, Cursive.. mmm. Hopefully it will be a better year for music, as the last was so full of breakups and death. I was so sad to hear Stars called it quits.

But my one friend from Alabama is going to see them in New Orleans on the 28th. Since it's my birthday, he's going to buy me a shirt and put Trent in a box and ship them up here. hahahahahaha

I would say, out of the last two years, some of the cds that have stayed in my cd player the longest:

*Bright Eyes-I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
*Every Time I Die- Gutter Phenomenon
*Spill Canvas- One Fell Swoop
*Chiodos- All's Well That Ends Well
*The Number 12 Looks Like You- Nuclear. Sad. Nuclear

yeah i gave 5, sorry about that, then again i am like the 153 post, so theres no chance you'll be reading this anyway. But it was fun making a list.

Yours (du-uh). Thursday. Morrissey. Muse. Taking Back Sunday. Brand New. Bouncing Souls. The Ataris. John Mayer (it's supposed to be like the John Mayer Trio album, yay). Rise Against.

Most of these are *hopefully* going to be done and out soon.

Uh... more. Once I figure that out.

If Spitalfield is recording (I do not know for I haven't visited their website lately), I am definately waiting for their new album. I unintentionally left them off my list of favorites. Them and Muse.

Miss Murderess said...

Besides from AFI? Let's see... Slayer, definitely... The Birthday Massacre would be good option but ha, their cd won't be out for another year... And The Action Design, definitely n_n

And I cannot wait for AFI's newest. Or Thursday's. Or Slayer. Or Radiohead. Or Morrissey. Or Tiger Army. Or The City Drive (my guilty pleasure band from LA xD).

Stigmata Martyr said...

Morrissey's new album will be nothing short of amazing.
The new single and video are just perfect.
Besides that, the only other thing I'm looking foward to is new AFI.
The best albums to come out of the last 2 years were
Depeche Mode's Playing the Angel, VNV Nation's Matter + Form, Bright Eye's I'm Wide Awake, it's Morning/Digital Ash in a Digital Urn, and Garbage's Bleed Like Me.

Cone Hat said...

I bet you hate Coheed and Cambria. Well! Guess what? I hate them MORE ...if that's who you hate. I understand perfectly that it is not really appropriate [for you] to publically berate a band.
Anyhow. Muse's new album is DEFINITELY something I will be vibrating over. And I don't like to sound like a corn dog, but I (along with everyone, I'm sure) am excited to see what AFI are going to pull out of the hat. Speaking of, who has he obsession with bunnies?
Anyway...favorite albums,eh?
"Fever to Tell" - Yeah Yeah Yeah's
"Elevator" - Hot Hot Heat
"Antics" - Interpol
"Fantastic Wounds" - The Schoolyard Heroes
"Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes" - TV on the Radio
"You're A Woman, I'm A Machine" - Death From Above 1979
"You'll Rebel To Anything" - MSI
Now I'm going overboard, I do believe.
Well, time for "Les Plouffe".

Make connections with the little people,
Cone Hat.

p.s. Honorable mention to "American Idiot"(since it has shown up so often that I feel SHOULD say something). I would have enjoyed it more had they shortened their songs by, say, 40 minutes or so. Each. The melody and content are pretty bitchin', though!

Someone didn't feel like posting an entirely new blog. Most anticipated? Duh. AFI. Other than that...God, I don't even know any other cds that are coming out soon. I'm dying under loads of homework. And therefore the only thing I'm keeping up with is AFI's new album and the Charlotte theories. Other than that I'm doing homework...or commenting on your blog. ^_^ Yeah.'ll have to find out what the hell's coming out...have a wonderful day...night...leprechaun...

A Girl with Broken Dreams said...

Yeah, and I definitely JUST realized that American Idiot was most definitely released within the last two years. It feels like it was released 5 years ago. but that's because time of pastness is dragging, not because I don't know what year it was released in. ...Don't ask why I felt the need to comment to say that.

hmm. best album of the last two years?
that's hard... too hard... i can't decide. and i SWEAR it has nothing to do with how i cannot remember any CD's right now.

and looking forward to?
besides the new AFI CD i've been waiting for for a long time?
ahh, well, i'm not too sure about this one, either. i would say Moi Dix Mois, but 1) the CD came out a week ago or so... and 2) it's not being released in the US. and i can't import things so good such as music. it's sad, i know.
i don't believe the new Zelda game counts? i could always listen to the music in the game.

so i guess i'll stay with my J-Rock obsession, until the new AFI CD comes out.

when, at that time, i will play it on full blast while playing Zelda: Twilight Princess. also sound on full blast. it's not hard listening to two things at once.

Yeah, there's this band called AFI and they supposedly have a new CD coming out this year. I'm hella stoked.

Two Albums of last 2 years:

Rammstein - Reise Reise (Reise Reise Tour was the best show live ever)
Apocalyptica - Self Titled (Nordic Killing Cello Quatuor)

Smaching Pumpkins - Untitled and surely for 2007 (If they find a deal)
Muse - Planned for the 26 Apr 06 (Heard 4 tracks...I think it will kick ass - VIVE LA GRATTE AU CLAV!)

Other Waiting:
AFI (No comment)
Suiffect (Our Band...We finished building our studio last summer...Got about 80-90 songs...But we had to kick out our Guitar player...Anyone wants to play in a Electro-Melodic-Hard-Rock band? ^^
Finding time when you got a job and a family it's hard to find time to meet only a week for recording :S - Let's say October 2006 -

3 things:
1- Hope you won't be on tour in Europe this August...We will be on tour and (Hoping Davey won't see this line and you won't tell...)we got his Fafi T-shirt that we finally got last month!!!
2- Hoping that Hunter liver didn't blow up (See his signature ;]), the website was online only 6 weeks last year. This because I love and I didn't want to do something similar.
The new one is about 60% finish and will be sent on the same day as the new album (only in French for the moment...couldn't find some help).Keeped Secret for the moment (Question: Is there anyway to get the band (and if possible the AFI Crew) Face and Side picture?)
3- Didn't receive any reply concerning copyright...Here, they try to lock website about band lyrics and tabs (What is your opinion about it?), but I will put them anyway and 3 Remixed AFI song electro style (I asked if there was a way to get Davey voice along...No we manage something else (If you do have a solution, please let me know!!!). But if someone will ask me to cut some stuff, I will do.

I'll try to pass more often...If I got time

Oceans of Regret "Cardboard and Rainwater", Mulligan "The Tides of Blackheart Bay", Broken Sunday "Identity", Ginger Fig "Take the Money...Leave the Girl" so many. Gotta love the awesomely awesome local music.

As for upcoming... Well YOURS of course. I have been anticipating it for way over a year now. and I can't wait to have it! others would be.... okay I'm not sure. I've been obsessing with Japanese Rock music again and I don't really know when their various ep.s or cds come out... hmmm, you said Saves the Day has new stuffs coming? Looking forward to: YOU GUYS! Of course! I'm also looking forward to Vanessa Carlton's new work (as she says she's already started), as well as MCR's. I really want to hear Elefant's new album, too, but that has already been released :P

It's sad because a lot of the music I really love that I get into was probably released 5/10/20/50 years prior to this year. I'm so late ._.
