Something by the Sex Pistols.

I think you should cover something younger Afi fans can relate to more, like New Born By Muse, something different

Jade you have made me so happy by coming to the uk before the album comes out, it means the world.

I wait ready to explode in excitment

Lilith said...

Of the top of my head I would say - Guns n Roses - Think about you.

I loved your cover of my michelle so I think it would work well.

Lilith said...

Oooh or maybe something by Atomic Rooster. I don't know if you have heard of them, they are pretty old but I think they are great.
You could do some interesting stuff I think.

If you want to check them out then I recomment 'In hearing of Atomic Rooster'

How Soon is Now or Panic by The Smiths
The Walk or Jumping Someone Else's Train by The Cure
Ziggy Stardust by Bowie

The Timid Wild One said...

You know what? I think something by the Smiths.

Loveisdead is cool for reminding me of them. My brain stopped working during the first post.

some more of the cure. you should try the clash.

Shooting Star by Poison would be great! Anything by Poison, The Cure, The Clash and Joy Division, actually

Can't waiiiiitttt, please tour Europe?

I know it'll never happen but... Orgy's "Stitches" would be amazing.

Hey, I can dream.

Fragile said...

Love is a Battlefield!! :)

Actually, something by Queen would be really sweet. If you covered "Rebel Girl" by Bikini Kill, i'd probably passout from being so overjoyed.

emily the heart monster said...

PS: Cure's Fascination Street

Girls Don't Cry said...

Love Will Tear Us Apart, for sure. I would DIE.

JadeyX said...

"How Soon is Now"-The Smiths

"Lady of the Flowers"-Placebo

"Bohemian Rhapsody"-Queen.

"She's in Parties"-Bauhaus (I'm wearing my Bauhaus shirt now.)

"Without You I'm Nothing"-Placebo. I'm a HUGE Placebo fan. Have you listened to the new record? Beyond amazing.

And ANYTHING by David Bowie. Davey + David Bowie = hella sweet.

How about something like VNV Nation? It'd be cool to hear an AFI-like version of "Beloved"

Also... cover Placebo!

vanessa said...

Oooooh, do a Cure or a Smiths song, any song. OH WAIT, how about a Depeche Mode song? That would be unbelievably awesome!

'tina said...

"Fiction" by Orgy, "The Lovecats" by the Cure, or maybe something by Queen. [except Bohemian Rhapsody. that one's sacred. :D )

black_dust said...

Something that you would never think of AFI playing :)

Blues Brother - Soul man or Someone to love.

Slipknot - Wait and bleed (theres a challenge for you, make it sound more AFI)

in all seriousness, i know Davey (and maybe all of you) Loves Queen, and i would love to hear any Queen song sung by Davey

her divine shadow said...

Radiohead - Pyramid Song
Boomtown Rats - I don't like Mondays
Joni Mitchell - A Case of You
The Clash - Train In Vain

I'm just morbidly curious to hear what Joni Mitchel in the key of AFI would be though.

kel. said...

Well I just got so excited that I can barely think of anything.

I'm not sure, it's never really ever any fun when they cover a band that they sound like, so I'd go with something kind of out there, like Portishead or Sublime, The Distillers or New Pornographers.
Actually, F-Minus' "Wake Up Screaming" or "Paid to Listen" would be great, too.

Elizabeth said...

Poison heart :the Ramones
Eyes without a face : Billy Idol
Love Song:The Cure(anyway everybody it's gonna choose a The Cure song)
if you could speak in german I'd probably tell you that ''was zahlt'' by the Die Totem Hosen(the punk rock german band, they are kings here in Argentina) would be a great cover because is a sooo beautiful song , anyway if you hadn't heard it yet , you should listen that song in the future at least for one time in your life.

good luck

Jimmy Eat World - Get It Faster.

Mainly 'cause it's stuck in my head and it's a totally sweet song. I've actually thought about this, but I can't remember the song. Gah

Well, this isn't for AFI, but I think Blaqk Audio could pull off doing "Fashion" by David Bowie, with all the electric sounding stuff. But as far as AFI covers go, I'd say cover... "She's In Parties" or "Double Dare" by Bauhaus.

She's Lost Control or Isolation - Joy Division
Rain - The Cult
Tonight Tonight - Smashing Pumpkins
Sour Girl - Stone Temple Pilots

anything you cover will be great though. those are just some that I think you guys would be phenomenal at covering.

Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" I can see you guys doing amazing things with that song! Or maybe Love and Rocket's "So Alive" See you Wednesday!

Definitely something fun & unexpected. A couple of weeks ago I kept hearing Davey's voice over 'Whores' by Jane's & 'Easy' by PJ Harvey.

This is difficult. I need to think some more.

Love will tear us apart by Joy Division. Or anything by JD. And I absolutely adore the song Beloved by VNV nation as well, so that would be good. Or other interesting covers, though unlikely to happen, would be Waiting Room by Fugazi, C'Mere by Interpol or Everything Shining TIme you arrive by Sunny Day Real Estate.

livvy said...

"Lovesong" by the Cure.
Oh and "Lips Like Sugar" by Echo and the Bunnymen.

Both would be awesome, but I'd really love to hear what you guys would do with "Lips Like Sugar".

Something good but not too good; in fear of accidentally screwing up a classic.

Bring on The Smiths?

Oh, no Queen or Bowie...
any cover of those tend to be God-awful, no matter how wonderful the band is.

Some early, dirty, heartbreaking Queen.

'March Of The Black Queen' maybe... or whatever's fun for you guys to jam on...

or a-ha's 'The Swing Of Things' good god, now there's a bridge to suck the breath right out of you..

...and I'd be lying if I said I haven't had the odd fantasy about hearing Davey intoning the intro to Prince's 'Let's Go Crazy'....

aaawwww hell yea XD

Something very unexpected :D

I agree with "How Soon is Now", but "Still Ill" and "Nowhere Fast" would be good, too.

Heh, I've been humming it all day, so why not suggest it: "Such Great Heights" from the Postal Service.

How about "Bad Moon Rising" from CCR?

Or OOH! I just remembered how my friend and I were thinking how awesome it would be if you covered an Elfman song...It would be sweet to hear "Oogie Boogie" from Nightmare Before Christmas because of the "Woahs!" But in Corpse Bride "Remains of the Day" also has killer back up vocals. Please consider these :D Don't let the fact that both are jazz based intimidate you. heh

I'd love to hear "Prettiest Star" or "Aladin Sane" from Bowie.

What about "Letter to God" from London After Midnight?

I know you'll probably be like "WTF?" with this next suggestion, but I think its pretty (of course, this bands lyrics kind of lack, but they have beautiful melody and brilliant guitar/bass). Los Lonely Boys "Velvet Sky" (give it a listen at least ^^;;)

Some else suggested Placebo. That would be cool, I like "My Sweet Prince" :0

Rancid "Roots Radicals" because it would be awesome.

Ooh! This would be nice. Good song that alludes to a great poem. Simon and Garfunkl's "Richard Corey"

Tenacious D's "Wonderboy". That's right. Or "It's Tricky" RUN DMC. Sweet.

"Hips Don't Lie" PLEASE!!!

Okay, how about "Paradise," "Wanted," "Half a Week Before the Winter," and "Dark Carnival" from Vanessa Carlton. No, I'm serious. She's pretty awesome with songs, I think. Give those a listen :P

This is from my friend who doesn't have a blogspot, because she doesn't want to conform:
"Closer" from NIN. Sexcellent!
Or a random Smiths song....Not a cliche one.
Placebo, "Without You I'm Nothing"

I second "Rock Lobester!" You could totally crabwalk with the guitar!

Okay, this reply was little long I guess, but I have a lot of ideas. That, and I TOTALLY GOT YO' BACK! :0

shanagdi said...

Please no 'Jane Says.' That's just wrong. I would love to hear something ('What She Said') by The Smiths. They were my favorite band of all time until I started listening to AFI.

'Everything Counts' or something by Depeche Mode would be sweet.
'Mirror in the Bathroom' the English Beat
'Ocean Size' Jane's Addiction
'taxi driver' hanoi rocks

Maybe some more of the Cure, I really enoyed your cover of "Just Like Heaven."

Though you know what would sound really really bitchin cool? If you guys covered Type O Negative's "Black No. 1." or "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend."

Maybe some Danzig, though it would just prove the point that Davey is slowly turning into Glenn, just don't punch anyone in Tuba City, ok?

Hmmmm....what songs do you like playing on the guitar? Ok, now I'm blabbing. It would be cool to hear a Type O cover though.

Well, you've already done a Cure cover, and performed Just Like Heaven...

Something by The Sisters of Mercy? That would be awesome. I mean, I'd love to hear yet another cover of Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart, but does seem to be overdone. I've been trying to think of a more recent band for you to do a cover of, but couldn't really think of anything. Interpol, perhaps? I don't know. VNV Nation would be interesting...if you could cover one of their songs, preferably Beloved or Further, so it included guitar, drums, and bass, but still include electronic elements.

Kate said...

"A Means to an End"- Joy Division
"TV Casualty"- The Misfits

You know what others would be amazing? These:

Hot Hot Heat - "Jingle Jangle"

Bouncing Souls - "Hopeless Romantic" (I can hear Davey singing it now, it seems to fit his vocals for some reason.)

The Juliana Theory - "Into the Dark"

Blonde Redhead - "Elephant Woman" (For whatever reason, I can see this working.)

Rancid - "Time Bomb" and/or "Lock, Step & Gone" ('And Out Come the Wolves' is love.)

That's all I got for now...

I'd like to hear you guys cover something by Bauhaus...probably The Passion of Lovers.

Also, just because they sound completely unlike AFI, and I'd like to hear what you guys could do with the song:
The Weather - Built To Spill
Functions - Tiger Lou
Kissing Families - Silversun Pickups
Killbot 2000 - Murder By Death
San Dimas High School Football Rules - The Ataris (cause that would be fun)
Schizoophrenia's Weighted Me Down - Cat Power

How about something that isn't The Smiths, Joy Division, The Cure (been there, done that), Misfits (same goes), David Bowie, or Queen. Basically anything that's popular to AFI in general. The only reason these kids are suggesting that is because those are bands you guys personally like. I'm sorry but I am just sick of hearing all these kids obsessed over bands that weren't even in their era.

Be creative and go for something that isn't popular by today's standards. I'm sure you could think of something. Whatever it is, you'll make bank either way.

Heather said...

I'd say do something not even in the rock genre and change it up a bit. I think it would be much more interesting than doing an 80's alternative song, or otherwise. It would also give you more freedom and creativity to make something that most of your fans aren't probably into, into something that everyone would love. ....Anyone up for a challenge?

Silver Dagger by Dolly Parton
Folsom County Blues - Johnny Cash

These have HUGE potential to be the coolest covers--- EVER.
A lot of fans complain about 'happy songs' and these lyrics would have to satisfy them.
Besides, everyone does a Smiths cover, a Joy Division Cover, a Clash cover, and ESPECIALLY a Cure cover. Everyone already knows what you listen to, and expects that kind of music from you. What is the fun in that?! Pulling something out of left field would be much more exciting and might open fans up to other things. We hear you say the bad things about close minded fans. So... deliver us something totally different! It would be much more fun and totally appreciated. =)

However, if that isn't cool enough, I'd say for you guys to cover
'Take On Me' by A-ha
I would pay ten million dollars (if i had it) to see Davey try and hit that high note.
I don't even think its possible unless you used some sort of torture device.

These might be repeats because I am way too lazy to read through what everyone else has to say, but here we go:

"Life on Mars?" "Five Years" and "Lady Stardust" by Bowie.

Then, perhaps, if you had some time leftover, I'd very much like to hear a little "Heat of the Moment" by Asia.

Alyssa said...

"Don't Stop Believin'" - Journey

that would be insanely amazing.
maybe a Smashing Pumpkins song.

Play John Cages 4:33, you'd kick ass and confuse everone in the audience.
(just incase you don't know it)

Or Or Or play the Origin of Love from Hedwig and the Angry Inch (or really any song from their soundtrack, Random Number Generation is also amazing as is Nailed)

Or My Buried Child by Swans, that song is amazing.

If you want opera I love The Cold Song by Purcell, my absolute favorite operatic piece.

And I doubt Davey could hit the notes, but if you did a cover of Klaus Nomi's Total Eclipse (or perhaps even Keys of Life or Za Bak Daz and his version of The Twist is just killer).

And covering Orphans by Teenage Jesus and the Jerks would be fun.

I think that's enough for now.

"Ballroom Blitz" by Sweet. Every time I listen to that song, I hear Davey's voice.

"Are you ready, Jade?"
"Alright, fellas! Let's GOOOOOO!"

jade, i heard the show was awesome, i hope you had so much fun. :)

Pretty_Much_Totally_Awesome said...

I think it would be really funny if you guys covered a song by the Blood Brothers.

Cautioners said...

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

You have no idea how happy that would make me.

I would love to see you play Just Like Heaven even though I know you've done it before.

Lovesong - The Cure
There is a Light... - The Smiths
Boy with a thorn in his side - The Smiths

Anything, really. Have a nice day :)

Whoever said you should cover 'Ballroom Blitz' by Sweet should get some sort of award. I second that request. It would be AMAZING.

And how 'bout 'High School' by The Eyeliners?

A Girl with Broken Dreams said...'s a good should cover "you give love a bad name". cuz I have atreyu's cover of that song stuck in my head right now. it's a good song.

c-bot said...

Climbing up the Walls by Radiohead.

for some weird reason i could see you doing a Bloc party cover.

agent sometimes said...

I'm seconding The Misfits "Dig Up Her Bones". It's the best, blackest love song out there.

If not, then:
- anything from Rocky Horror. Oh c'mon, like you've never thought of re-working Time Warp or Sweet Transvestite.
- some Bad Religion
- Clampdown or Rudie Can't Fail or Spanish Bombs/ The Clash
- some Covenant perhaps?
- Big Neon Glitter/ The Cult
- This Charming Man/ The Smiths
- Skid Row... definitely
- Street Spirit/ Radiohead
- Killer Queen/ Queen
- Something I Can Never Have/ NIN
- Looking for a Kiss/ New York Dolls ( Actually, i just want to hear Davey say "when i say i'm in love, you best believe I'm in love... luv")
- Day Late, Dollar Short/ Hanoi Rocks
- View to a Kill/ Duran Duran

and so forth and so on.... =)

The Smiths, or Nine Inch Nails would be really good. However, I think that Nirvana or Rancid would be INSANE! Doooo it.

Was it predecided that that album should be released on 666?

How... satanic.

Possibly Tori Amos' "Crucify". I am in agreement with most people about David Bowie though. While "Ziggy Stardust" is utterly classic I'm thinking maybe "Rebel Rebel".

While I'm not sure where you boys stand on The Beatles but, I'm curious to what an AFI rendition of "Across The Universe" would be or maybe even "Helter Skelter". Naturally everyone is going to suggest something by The Cure, The Smiths and Joy Division. I have a softspot for Depeche Mode's "Stripped" so that could be interesting.

That's such a loaded question and hard to answer for me since I have such a diverse taste in music. Silly Jade. :P

I'd like to see you cover the song Hell Yeah by Apulanta because that song is amazing.

Or something more conservative like any Placebo song.

Black Rose said...

Hell yeah, someone said Christian Death, but I think either Spiritual Cramp or Cavity First Communion would be great.

You know what, im thinking about the Ballroom Blitz suggestion and I think that would be crazy as fuck!! I can totally see it, and it would be good!

OMG Jade. I was gonna see you guys at the Fonda on 4/28. It's a sad story, really.
So KROQ was giving away 5 pairs of tickets to see you guys at the Fonda at your *shhhh* secret concert after the furious five at nine. So I called after #1 finish.
The line was busy.
So I'm thinking,'Great. Someone's won the tickets.'
But I keep calling, cos KROQ didn't specify WHEN after #1 ppl. would start winning.
After 10 min., at the end of a Strokes song, I called.
So I stay on the line.
But then halfway through a HIM song, my phone hangs up on me!
I quickly re-dial and about a min. later...........
'Hello, KROQ.'
'Hi, I'm calling for the AFI tickets.'
'Oh, we JUST got five winners, but we will have more contests tomorrow.'
I was sad and shocked at how close I was to winning those tickets.
Then it REALLY hits me.
Had my phone not hung up on me, I would have been on my way to the Fonda this Friday night to see you!
That just depresses me.

I say cover a song my Marilyn Manson. Maybe Nirvana.

Jade wishes he was me said...

Hey, you should totally do a song from the future. Ya sure songs from the past are easier to learn but who wants to hear another NIN cover, or another misfits cover? I want to hear a cover by the Atomic Death Warriors. yeah. either that or do a song by... dude i got it. Do a van halen song.
Im thinking hot for teacher or maybe Panama, ya know, one of the classics so everyone knows it but then do that one thing *spins* and put your afi touch on it. Then if people ask, just say that you guys really wrote it and Van Halen used a time machine and covered it.

So yeah. Dont forget to come to san diego or I will probably be forced to cut the strings off of your guitar and hunters bass.

p.s. my display name is so true, and i have a video of me impersonating you but i doubt you are going to read this, so if anyone is still reading this damn post send a message to me or something and if i sign on ill put up a video. Yay.
