With the upcoming birthdays of such rockabilly luminaries as Sam Phillips, Scotty Moore, and Elvis, as well as the deaths of Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, and Carl Perkins, I thought I'd pay tribute with a bit of rockabilly guitaring.

Blaqk Audio this weekend! Maybe the last one for quite some time. Who's coming?

Thursday, December 20, 2007

And we've learned that people want to get attacked by a bat while listening to Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. On Arbor Day.
Busy days lately. Davey and I have been sequestered in a hotel writing songs every day this week.

I just did the sorriest wrapping job ever on these poor presents.

New poll. This is important stuff people.

edit: Let me clarify here, this is not a baseball bat, this is a bat, possible a vampire bat or maybe a fruit bat, but it will be flying all in your hair, biting and scratching at you, maybe making racist or sexist remarks.
Don't be too quick to choose that.

In a major upset America is pwned by Arbor Day. Who would have thought. Take a bow, X-mas, you are the most loved.
What is everyone wanting this year?

I just had to come up with my Top 10 albums and Top 10 songs for 2007 and it was immensely difficult. I really had to dig to even come up with 10 songs that I honestly enjoyed this entire year.
That's sad isn't it?
What's going on with music these days?
Are we enjoying it less because it's easier to get or is there just a lack of truly great songs being written?
Brian Wilson, of the Beach Boys, who was one of the greatest songwriters of his generation, and of all time, was driving in 1967 when he heard the Beatles song "Strawberry Fields Forever" for the first time. He was so affected by the song that he had to pull over on the side of the road. He later said that this song was one of the reasons that the Beach Boys masterpiece album "Smile", went off the rails.
I'm always amazed by that story and saddened that there aren't many songs these days, if any, that can affect people so viscerally.
Has anyone had that feeling in their life, where you hear a song for the first time and you're just absolutely floored by it?

If you haven't checked out the Blaqk Audio site in a while, we're playing New Years Eve in San Francisco, for all of those who are a fan of fun.
It's the Live105 NYE party, I've never been but I heard it's quite the time.
There will be dancing:

Ladies, I'm not saying that Patrick Swayze will be there and dance with you in this lake, but on the other hand, let me just say that he definitely will be.

So awhile ago I was thinking about the best outbursts ever in movies and tv, so I made a little compilation of them. Enjoy.

ahhhhhh!!! I just got my birthday package! (oddly it showed up at a woman's house who works for my management??) How nice. How lovely. How thoughtful. When I saw all that candy my teeth fell out of my mouth in anticipation of future visits to the dentist. The artwork was tres fantastique as well. It really is great of you.

Oh hello. It's me.
I'm currently playing my guitar and looking at my hyphy christmas tree.
What's new, what's happnin, what's good?
What are you reading, listening too, eating, watching?

Seriously, this has been an amazing tour, so fun. Dave and I were talking today about how bummed we are that there's only 2 more shows. Usually on tour you're ready to get home at the end but it's sad that the BA tour is coming to an end.
At least there's a couple of AFI shows coming up. Those will be super extra. Anyone coming?

I added an informal poll on the left there, check it. Unlike our presidential elections, please vote only once.

Ooops, I forgot Cities of Night.

I cast my vote for Cities of Night. It totally swept it's category with 100% of the votes!
I saw Mike Tyson at Pinkberry's last night. He has an enormous square head and his body looks like a sock filled with walnuts. I should have told him that I whooped his ass bigtime on Mike Tyson's Punch Out in the 80's.

CexCells has officially been out a week, how is it treating you? How are you treating it?
As you may know, we're getting ready to embark on a somewhat short tour and we're tres looking forward to playing these songs live for the first time.
I hope you know how to dance.
We're bringing some familiar faces along as well, such as Smith and Fritch, so it'll be like old times.
Perhaps I'll even get a chance to make a new Smith video.
I haven't filmed him in quite some time and I've missed out on countless crazy stunts he's pulled.
By the way, it was nice seeing some of you out at both the listening parties and the 2 signings we just did.

Say hey, I'm making first ever foray into the fast-paced world of Ebay. I'm selling a few pairs of shades to make room for a few new pairs, so if you know anyone who likes fancy schmancy eyewear or just hates the sun, here ya go:

Some of you have been asking me whether it will just be Davey and I onstage when Blaqk Audio plays live, or whether we were going to bring a backup band. I hope this answers your question.

p.s. take a moment to appreciate the guy on the far right. karate outfit with a shirt and tie under it? stellar!

3 months!?! I must apologize. I must post something nice to make up for my 100 day absence. What would you like most?

Wednesday, February 28, 2007

Does NIN's online mystery seem familiar?

Jeeeez, how do you like my new super-ugly blog template? Wow.
Ahhhh, stupidnewblognotallowingmetosigninbecausetheychangedeverythingihateyou. Why do they feel the need to change a good thing.
Anyway, here I am, back from tour, relatively unscathed.
Going back in the studio on Friday with Davey, to do 3 new Blaqk Audio songs.
We've have a spectacular idea for the cover of the album and we're arranging the photo shoot for it right now.
The websites are being worked on, and there should be something up very soon. Like hopefully by next week.
I should make a "custom widget" for Blaqk Audio, no?

Monday, February 12, 2007

New Smith, can you handle it?

Tuesday, January 16, 2007

Day 2 of vocals. We've already finished 8 songs. We would have finished the whole thing this week but Saturday Night Live came up. Certainly can't complain about that though. Can't wait for everyone to hear these songs, they're coming out fabulously. There's also going to be some surprise guest appearances, surprising even to us. Here's a couple of pictures that I took (horribly) yesterday.

Wednesday, January 10, 2007

p.s. the lyrics were written by Davey. Like in AFI, I'm writing all the music and doing all the programming for Blaqk Audio and Davey is writing the words. Nnnnghhh!!

Tuesday, January 09, 2007

So I must apologize for my tardiness (again), but I have been bizzybizzy.
Mainly I've been dividing my time between working on my biceps by benchpressing Ferraris filled with supermodels and teaching the homeless to read.
All the rest of my hours have been spent slaving on Blaqk Audio. We're entering the studio in a matter of days to record vocals. We're very excited.
I'll be posting a tracklisting and an album title when it's finalized.
We also have a website,, which will be undergoing a major transformation very soon.
If I have any time I'm going to try to put together a couple of simple t-shirt designs too.
In the meantime I thought I'd post lyrics to one of the songs, just so you know I'm not lying about us finally putting out this album.

Black-Ink Style

So she found him in a sprawl, collapsed and glowing pale

on the ground. His hair spread like a melting angel

like a fire crawling across the floor.

In this moment, in this still inchoate

she loves him.

In this moment, in this light she loves him like no one has.

He held onto elegance easily.

She'd never seen him this way.

She holds on to this picture lit perfectly

and she holds the dust forever.

So he finds her in a sprawl, woven deep in memories revisited and reworked.

The scars get covered up with cherry blossoms that never felt

as soft as this

He held onto elegance easily.

She'd never seen him this way.

She Holds on to this picture lit perfectly

and she holds the dust forever.

Freeze the frame right here he found the perfect pose.

It comes to him naturally.

Freeze the frame right there he found the perfect pose

It came to him naturally.

Surely you must remember him?
