Sometimes I forget to log on to my Myspace for months at a time, which is fine, but I logged on today and it was totally worth it because I requested an add from Tom Hanks. What would it be like to get denied by Tom Hanks on Myspace.
How do you guys feel about that site these days? Over it? Still into it?
I don't have a Facebook account (unless I signed up and forgot about it), but how does it stack up against the Space?

I don't use myspace as much anymore...just for finding new music. I have a Facebook because all my friends are on it. I don't like it that much. Sites like those are losing my interest.

I guess I could say I'm pretty much over it (myspace)

facebook is good for talkin to friends

both have good qualities but if i had to pick one it would be facebook.

Tom Hanks should get facebook.

Facebook > Myspace, without a doubt. the applications get annoying, but you can make dozens of photo albums and i feel like it's so much easier to use.

i'm thinking about deleting my myspace at this point, all the creepy people and crude comments are going a bit too far. :/

.maybe just maybe tom shanks you in the back foo'!-with a little red swiss army spork.

.myspace is like the belly of a great regal beast.cthulhu style.and within the beast there are worms you want to meet and worms whose organs you wish would rupture when you push "deny add" below their shoddy cell-fone powder-room self-portrait.

.facebook is like the belly of the smaller less glamourous beast.

.I am a special worm so I reside in the belly betwixt both beasts.

i guess i should admit that i'm not a big fan of myspace , i have one but i never use it and i have it as privated .....anyway i don't have anything against it , it's only that if you really wanna meet someone ,( i mean to know how he/she really is with no fake pics and all that shit ) myspace is not the right place to do it , meeting someone through it is even like a fantasy ...
but anyway it's a good place for make other people get to know some bands , and it's free ! so ... as you can see:

I prefer myspace because I have so many more friends of all ages using it. I recently got my facebook account and it feels very high school-ish, possibly because my only friends on it are from my high school in addition to one from college. (My twenty year reeunion was in November.) You would probably LOVE the myriad of applications on facebook.

I am also somewhat technologically impaired and intimidated by facebook. I still need to learn how to use/manipulate it.

I use MySpace for the random people I keep in contact with online, and for keeping up with bands. I use Facebook for personal friends and people from my university. I find MySpace to be better for music, promotions, and making the profile creative. However, I'd have to say that, on the whole, Facebook is a lot better because of its organized functioning and better privacy features. So much that the people behind MySpace have been altering their design to mimic the functioning of Facebook.

Haras said...

I don't have a facebook, but I've heard that it's annoying. You can send "pokes" to people. What?

I stick with myspace. Nothin like having 200 friends and only talking to 5 of them.

Anyway. You know, I think Green Day denied me via myspace. I must not be good enough for them. :[

I think it would be absolutely devastating if Tom Hanks denied a friend request, because he's just so cool and funny.

I have a Myspace and a Facebook, but I tend to use Myspace more because most of my friends have one and it's easier to talk to them online there than Facebook.

I find Myspace easier to navigate than Facebook, plus you can be more creative with setting up your profile than with Facebook. Facebook just has all of these weird add-ons like surveys and pets and such. Overall I prefer Myspace.

Emily Ruth said...

I refuse to get a Facebook. Partly because when it first started, you could only sign up using a college e-mail address and I didn't like the idea of EVERYONE at my school being able to see my profile. Now I just don't want one because when people ask me if I do, I'm like, "Uh, I have a MySpace. Find me there."

fone said...

Looks like you have about five facebooks, actually.

Lenore said...

Ok. Myspace seems to be overcrowded with middle school drama. Facebook is much better, not to mention there's cool stuff on there. I prefer it. I personally never cared for myspace...

I thought you didn't have a myspace...?

not another one said...

Myspace is more user friendly, and you can modify the looks of your page more, but facebook has more add ons, and they are all officially supported, unlike myspace's 3rd party chatboxes. It's really just a matter of preference.

I have one of each, both of which I use for different reasons. I like facebook for interacting with friends, work collegues, family and people I haven't seen in ages (old school mates from Uni, high school, heck, even elementary school!!). Cherol said...

I think that Myspace has a much greater creative outlet than Facebook. You can do so much design with myspace, and I really like that aspect of the site. It's fun.

Facebook has a vibe like Greta Garbo. It's much more sophisticated than Myspace, but totally monochromatic. I've also noticed that with the copious amounts of applictions that you can add onto your facebook, people get carried away and then their profile freezes my computer because of all the shit on it. No gracias.

BUT, both are great for communication, especially with those who you can't often speak to in person or on the telephone.

Anonymous said...

myspace is kinda obnoxious - i hate that you're forced into listening to god awful music whenever you visit a person's page.
with the exception afi/blaqk audio of course. no disrespect.
facebook's nice and quiet.

Miraenda said...

I prefer Facebook. Never liked MySpace (seems to be a trend that those who don't like MySpace do Facebook and vice versa on readin the comments here). Facebook allows a lot more privacy, so I can actually put personal facts, my address and so on. I can ensure my profiles aren't viewed by random people I don't want looking at them. I can limit my profile for friend adds to let the person (if I don't trust the individual getting the whole profile) to only view certain areas.

Also, I feel MySpace is clunky and difficult to navigate (and as much as I love music, I don't like getting it blared at me on some page with a neon purple background burning my eyeballs out). Facebook isn't difficult to navigate. I guess it's more college/university/company oriented still: It isn't really intended by design for kids and teenagers as much.

I already have a myspace, and when facebook became all big I didn't want to make one because I don't want more than one social networking site. One is plenty.

I don't get Facebook or the hype surrounding it. I suppose the same goes for Myspace, too, but it seems like the whole world has a Facebook lately. And like Sarah said, you can do things like "poke" people on it and that seems stupid. That and the apparent vampire or zombie attacking thing? I have no idea.

So yeah, I'll stick to myspace.

Susan said...

I do Myspace, mainly because I find it easier to use, I like the music and film element to it, and I know more people there (as in people I knew in person first). It's also a way to keep in touch with friends I have in other states and to share pictures so we'll recognize each other in 10 years at a reunion or something. Additionaly, I like that there are authors on Myspace and I find the book character profiles amusing (sue me, I'm a librarian). Occasionally, I'll lurk in a few of the literature or vegetarian groups/forums when I'm in the mood to get opinionated. I'm actually thinking of making a profile for my library so that I can use it as outreach to the local teens I work with. I'm usually writing on your blog while at work and the library is slow (like this morning). Regardless of all of this, I find myspace, blogs, forums, etc to be unproductive and a time drain which is why I've limited myself to one active social network profile.

I rarely log in to Facebook. I agree that it is more complicated to use and harder to find people I know, although people I don't know seem to have no problem finding me (so I disagree that there is no unwanted solicitation there).

I imagine that you would have to call yourself Sally Smith or something to actually have a private profile that you can share with your friends and not be bombarded by a ton of people (like on here :)

In general, I'm not online to make new "friends" and it's not my goal to have 500 people on my friend list (my private, personal page that is...if I make one for work that would be different). My rule is - if I don't know you, I'm not adding you. I got over the online friend concept 10 years ago in college. Although I believe I would make an expection for Tom Hanks. I'm such a hypocrite. Damn Tom for making me vulnerable. I know you didn't ask for a dissertation, but damn, you got me started - must be one of those occasional opinionated days.

Facebook is a lot easier to use and alot cleaner. Alot less "NEW CRUSH!" and "SLAP SANTAS BELLY FOR A FREE* iPHONE!" kinda things.

I like it more because you can navigate and find things much easier. Everyone has real names instead of "~*mizundr$t00d*~[DF]" and the like. Myspace gives me a headache. I hardly ever check it.

Myspace is more for creative people and also for kids who want 10000 friends who look just like them. If you want to be able to customize your look and be more expressive, stay with myspace.

If you want to communicate and share pictures and knows whats going on and keep in touch in an organized fun way, check out Facebook.

My mom recently got Facebook (actually a few months ago) and she has had MySpace for about a year or so. She uses myspace more because her artist friends use it more, but Facebook is more like... practical and useful.

If you get a Facebook account, tell us becuase id be more than happy to help you navigate your way across the fb interwebz (negative lolz)

I am very good at helping big kids, like my mom Page Carr, and Jade Puget, settle into Facebook. Since I have uhm... yea no life.

I find Facebook harder to manage, myspace is simpler, all of the applications on facebook cool as they are, get confusing. At least on Myspace you can get any layout you want.

Plus, now that you can have a private profile and pictures on Myspace and block messages from people who aren't on your friend list it's pretty much as private as Facebook.

So, Myspace - 1, Facebook- 0.
Not having a Facebook you're not really missing much, tbqh.

I go on myspace only to see if there are any new AFI or Blaqk Audio blogs and friend's messages. Most of my friends use facebook more than myspace so i use facebook to keep in contact. Facebook seems less confusing for me, but myspace is better in terms of being able to go search bands and listening to their music, making ur profile with html, etc. Oh and facebook...people can easily stalk you unless you have your profile as private, which is the way to go. By the way, there are a few people impersonating you on facebook. How stupid...unless one of them is yours and you forgot you had one.

Myspace used to be decent, aeons ago, but it became so cluttered, irritating and spammy that I ended up deleting mine.

Facebook is much better. It's more streamlined. The advertising is not disruptive at all. (They don't allow flash banner ads, for one, and I don't get any spammy messages or stripper friend requests...) Also, the music and video applications are much friendlier, in that they don't play automatically upon opening the page; instead, they give you the option of turning them on.

Some people don't like the lack of customization, but honestly, to me, that is one of the appeals. I can log on around my family or in a library and not worry about music blaring at me or about how offensively somebody may have decorated their page.

Sorry this comment was so long...

I have MySpace because I wanted to keep up with bands (like YOURS. Haha) I generally hate all that shit, but MySpace kinda sucked me in.
I do NOT have a facebook account though, because like I said, I get tired of all that really easily. It's really hard to keep up with everything and everyone, so too often I just throw my hands up and turn off the damn computer, and go read a book or something. ;-)

Myspace is alright if you keep it to people you care about. I wind up sending hate messages to people whose asses I'll eventually have to kiss (my luck) -- those situations are few and far between, but they suck. Facebook is terrible, too. It logs everything you've ever done and sends the information to everyone on your friends list: "Jade updated his About Me. Jade added this feature. Jade took a piss today."

I still prefer MySpace. But most of who I know do not use it. It's for me to find music anyway. Not fake friends.

I like facebook better, it's less annoying.
I use myspace for music though!

Facebook is great for networking. Aka, I think it's really good for colleges. Not really for high school. But I'm a biased college kid. Myspace is still a great hobby.

I still have my myspace.....I love it.

There isn't much more I can add to the "perks" of having Facebook, as opposed to Myspace.

Plain and simple:
Facebook -> GOOD
Myspace -> BAD

I like it. :)

I think that Myspace often causes more harm than good. Sometimes it's useful. Sometimes.

so you want to be bosom buddies with tom hanks? did he ever accept you as a friend? what makes you so sure it's really THE tom hanks, and not just a doppelganger or wannabe of that sort? what if it's someone who's obsessed with mr. hanks, and who's plotting some maniacal scheme to become tom hanks? or maybe it's like being john malcovich, and someone is inside his head, seeing the world through his eyes. oooh the possibilities.
you can also look at it this way, if your request to befriend the famous tom hanks is rejected, maybe you'll have better luck being friends with his son, whats-his-face hanks. is he on myspace?

I think, as a student, Facebook is great for creating little networks of people from uni, so you can send them all invites to parties etc, and just keep up to date with everyone.

I still use my Myspace, I don't think theres much difference, but I know more people with Facebook, than I do Myspace. In those terms, its a better way to get hold of people.

HA! Good point. Once this topic got rolling I looked you up Jade, just for shits and giggles. There are over 100 of you on myspace. It must be hard to be in so many places at once. I don't know whether to interpret this mimicry as flattery or borderline stalker behavior. Anyhow, you'll have to tell us if you've become an official Tom Hanks fanboy. eheh.

well, we would all love for you to have a facebook.

facebook isn't necessarily better or worse than myspace. lots of people hate myspace and love facebook, but i've never heard of anyone who hated facebook and loved myspace.

i have both.

Facebook > myspace.

Facebook has an intelligence requirement.

I was resistant to Facebook because it seemed like that's where all the elitist smarty-pants were going because they thought MySpace too gauche.

But, I got a Facebook account in August and now I'm hooked. I did it because so many of my friends were switching due to being sick of all the fake friends and ass shots in profiles.

Now I mostly use MySpace for keeping tabs on bands.

Sarizzle said...

MySpace annoys the living shit out of me. I use it on lonely days when I feel like stalking people. That's really the only time.

I don't really like Facebook either but it helps me keep in touch with friends I don't see much anymore. If you don't mind the constant invitations for stupid applications, it seems to run faster and is a lot more organized. More privacy options too, which is great news for a paranoid person such as myself.

In conclusion: Facebook > MySpace.

That would suck to be denied by Mr. Hanks. Really, it would. I was fortunate enough to not be denied by that guy from Scrubs whose name suddenly evades me.... The Garden State guy. Anyway, he writes blogs.

I don't really use Myspace so much anymore. I'm much way more into Facebook although it doesn't have the same stalking capabilites which both disappoints me and makes me feel safe. I don't fear for the innocence of my wee neice anymore when I post a picture of her - my photo albums are totally friend's only, and "friends" = people I actually know as well as relatives, and I hope they're all alright.

I love Facebook! I hardly ever get on Myspace anymore, but I'm on Fbook 24/7 with my cell phone. I'm in college and all my college friends have Fbook, so it's a great way to keep in contact. Plus, if I don't want to give someone my phone number, I can tell them to message me on Fbook and I instantly get the message on my phone. And, it's way easyer to find your friends on Fbook than Myspace.

Well, I don't use Facebook, not yet anyways. The last time I checked it out, I wasn't terribly impressed. I'm still a mySpace user. But, Jade, if you want somewhere all the cool, artsy kids hang out, check out:

You don't really have a Myspace, now do you? I've got one, but I rarely do much with it except post occasional journals (about nothing) and change around my profile song.
The facebook crowd is a little too young for me. I guess I just hang with the oldies on myspace ;)

It seems like lately MySpace is trying to BE Facebook. But I can't help it, I love it (even though I hate Facebook). MySpace really helps bridge the divide between people. I know I've written to a couple bands/singers I really like and they've written back. One of them even remembered me when I met him. It was amazing.

I greatly prefer Facebook over myspace. Myspace annoys me, and the only thing I use it for is to listen to music. Facebook seems to be primarily used by college students, and it's usually how students on campus stay in touch with people they meet in their classes. I like how it has a cleaner look than myspace, too.

You should get on Facebook and create your own group. :)

not as good as myspace, but okay i guess. even better than myspace is Vampirefreaks, and even better than VF is, well, here.

I hate facebook, it's more to keep in contact with classmates and shit like that. Myspace is better for...blogging and sending people silly pictures and pretending to be someone else...Myspace is easier and looks prettier too...'cause of all the layouts going around, Facebook looks the same always which is boring. I log onto Facebook every month or so 'cause I hate it but friends want me to have an account so...

Anonymous said...

Facebook is better because it is a bit more grown up with less people who can't spell or spam blogs or add random people and post super posy photos.

However I still use Myspace all the time because it's better for music connections. I subscribe to a load of bands blogs on it and if I want to check a band out I look up it's myspace so I can listen to a song.

Facebook works a lot around 'networks' and is thus probably best suited to those in University, college, school etc as every suchlike instituion has a network, so you can easily meet and add people you go/went to school with etc.

You should get a facebook account anyway, because it's good to have one even if you don't check it so often. It's not as slow as myspazz.

Hallideadly said...

Facebook is much better for pictures. You can post unlimited pictures, and it's really easy to connect with people without the messy look of myspace.

ok, i realize this thread probably died a long time ago, but Facebook is actually starting to grow on me. So far I haven't been bombarded with numerous bogus friend requests, etc. which is nice if you really are just there for real-life friends. However, I am finding it a bit too time consuming to use two social communities (or 3 if you count goodreads). Occasionally I like to live a real life.

Personally I prefer Myspace as appose to Facebook. I have both but I just find myspace more enjoyable. It's like an addiction but it is also a nice place to meet new people. At least for me anyway. In my opinion I think it is just a matter of preference.

Facebook and Myspace are pretty much the same thing but I hardly ever check message boards in good timing so...Myspace is good. Though...I think I've changed my layout more then I've updated that damned blog...I watch people, I don't see the point in telling people my life. If you wanna read that, go to lj. *grin*
