I went to Jerry Finn's memorial last week. It was sad and poignant, but at the same time people were having a good time, telling stories about Jerry, talking about all the things he accomplished. It was nice to see guys from such a wide array of bands, Rancid, Green Day, the Vandals, Bad Religion, Sum 41, and Blink 182 all standing around reminiscing about a guy who touched their lives.

I saw Sigur Ros at the Greek in Hollywood. I've always thought they'd be boring and static live but it was actually an entertaining and emotional show.
I was supposed to go see NIN at the Forum last month but at the last minute my tix fell through. I heard it was, at least visually speaking, one of the best shows in recent memory. Anyone see them on that tour?

And you made me think that this picture was for something regarding the new AFI, hmph! After I realized it wasn't I was saddened, haha.

I am glad you were able to attend the memorial and talk about good memories about a friend who influenced your life.

I have not been to any shows recently. I think the last one was The Cure. Since then, I am saving all my energy and health for you, unless, of course, hell freezes over and The Smiths play. :)

(However, I think Morrissey stated that he would rather eat his own testicles before that would happen.)

Sadly, I haven't been to an actual concert in forever. :[
But, on October 5th, Boys Like Girls and Cute is What We Aim For came to out town! Basically, all of my friends went but me.

I wanted to get my friend NIN tickets for her birthday but they were sold out so I got her VNV Nation instead. We haven't seen either band live so we're still excited. I'd love to have seen NIN though.

I'm glad you were able to attend the memorial. I know a lot of music fans were really affected by his passing, & I can't even imagine what it must be like for people who actually worked with him. It still feels weird to think about, for me.

I haven't attended any shows lately, besides a few local bands. But I was planning on seeing Nine Inch Nails back a few months ago, but GA sold out too fast & I couldn't get down to Minneapolis to begin with. Completely sucks. I heard it was good.

Yes it is sad that he died. Like wow.

I caught the NIN show at teh Forum. It was amazing. For sure, the best visuals I've ever seen. Do your best to catch them on the upcoming second leg of the tour!

I'm glad you could all share the stories about Jerry, I'm sure it was a very emotional event. I wish you all well.

As for NIN, haven't been graced with their presence, yet. =]

Sum 41 are nice guys.

And I would give almost anything to see Sigur Ros live.

Glad you went to the memorial and remembered all the things he did in his short life.

I saw them at the forum. I was amazing, beyond words. I thought I the whole place was moving because of the red and blue lights. Everyone seem to have a good time and singing along to the songs.
I will see them in Las Vegas in December. are you going?

Fluffo said...

NIN was fantastic.

Sincerest RIP to Jerry Finn.

I went with a friend for my birthday to the Forum NIN show. It was amazing and beautiful to watch the entire show (light/music). It's definitely a show that's better from a little further back so you can take everything in.

There was some very interesting things done, and I was excited to hear they were doing different things for the 2nd leg. So much so that I got tickets for the Vegas show.

I saw NIN this past summer at Lolla. I'm not sure if it was the same visual effects and show as you would have seen but it was none the less amazing. One of the best visual shows I've seen...and I saw Radiohead two nights prior...

Anonymous said...

fuck you seeing sigur ros, talking about it like it's not a big deal. i believe it is actually a huge deal! JERK. tickets sold out here in like a day.

anyways, i think you are great. at least, to say the least.

i would also give almost anything to see them live.

I'm so sorry to hear of Jerry Finn's passing. That's so sad. However, it does sound like his LIFE was celebrated by the guests in attendance at his memorial who shared stories/reminisced/extolled Jerry's accomplishments, etc. Jerry Finn certainly touched the lives of more people than we can possibly imagine through his amazing talent/work.

sigur ros?! nice.. wish i couldve gone.

Yes, NIN shows are always great.

It seems that a lot of amazing people in the music industry have passed away lately. Such as Mr. Finn and Mr. Kerr.

Dillon Amburgey said...

I saw NIN at Lollapalooza. Even though Trent was sick at the time, it was an amazing show.
The only thing I didn't like was that it didn't seem like the festival crowd was mad up of many NIN fans. There were a lot of people just standing around talking.

Karlye said...

I'm glad you got to go to Jerry's memorial and talk about him. Just the other day I was watching those In the Studio Sing the Sorrow videos and I saw Jerry in them. Kinda made me sad. Hope you're doing okay, he is terribly missed.

NIN is going to be at the Planet Hollywood Performance Hall here in December, not sure if tickets have sold out yet but I'd kinda like to go. I also heard that the shows were just fantastic in general, the more insentive to go to one ya know?

I saw NIN when they opened their tour in Seattle. The lightshow was absolutely the best lightshow I have ever seen.

Youtube some videos of the show, it won't do 'em justice but it is worth a try.

But dang, that was one epic show.

Damn, I liked Jerry's ear as a producer esp teamed with Butch.... NIN was great sonically there one of the best bands ever as for as live I guess its that $200 000 pro tools rig and was energy is fantastic and the lights are more original than anything ive ever seen and I work in a theater!

if you ever, ever need anything from the forum, you ask for eddy sato. he's the man, and you mention youre in afi, i will personally make sure he hooks you up. oh yeah, i have the power.

it was such a visually amazing show that my friend and i ditched the floor (and we are total pit people) to watch the show from a distance. it was breathtaking. my brain couldnt handle it.

afireinside said...

Sounds like a beautiful way to remember and celebrate a friend Jade :)
Aw, that sucks dude. I'm sure Trent will do another leg around the states so you should get to see the tour. I've hear it was pretty amazing, apparently one of the best line-ups NIN's ever had. I'm seeing in February. First time seeing 'em in what will be 15 years of listening. Excited.
Keep up the awesomeness dude, muchus love.

The NIN tour was AMAZING. I saw them in Philly in August. When I bought my tickets, I was a little put off by the price, but when I saw the show, I decided that it was more than worth it. The visuals were unbelievable. They had these interactive screens that the band (mostly Trent) were playing with...it was the coolest thing I've ever seen. They also played a really nice mix of songs. The show was about 2 hours long, I think.

Mad Writer said...

Memorials are always odd, especially when they keep doing every year or so. It's good to go, though, and to remember and talk about them. People only really die if no one remembers them.
I need to start going to see bands that more than just 200 out my way have heard of again. Last was two years ago, when I dragged my husband to see you guys. He was such a pain.

Ashleigh said...

It's nice to hear that you were able to attend the memorial. Mr Finn will certainly be missed in the music industry.

Well well well, Jade.
Now you know how I felt when my AFI tix for Bristol AND Brixton fell through in 2006.

I bet you didn't cry for five hours though.

Repos dans la paix, Jerry. You will be missed, <3

And no, I haven't been to concerts lately due to W.'s wonderful economic path. But next weekend I'm seeing Tantric, Drowning Pool, Jet Black Stare, and Saliva together, hopefully. I'm all happy.

I'm surprised people chose Satan and Sarah Palin. Then again, they go hand-in-hand, kind of like God and Tina Fey.

It's good to hear that all those band members were there paying their respects. He touched a lot of people, clearly.

I'm still in shock that that happend. I remember the last few funerals I went to, you were sad that they were gone, but in a way it brought us all closer because we all had that one person in common.

so there.

i love you.

The VERY best part about the NIN concert was there were NO breaks. They never stopped. It was the best concert I've seen in years.

NIN will be back in the states soon. You really should make an effort to get to a show. Saw them at Lolla, Philly and Toronto, and have Ottawa, Montreal and Manchester NH lined up. The visuals are definitely amazing, but the musicianship is too. The Ghosts presentation is very avant-garde.

No shows recently, but I heard a new song the other day that I absolutely fell in love with.
I'm wondering if you've heard of it:
Heart's a Mess by Gotye?

You always sound so discouraged with the music nowadays...
So maybe this will give you hope?
If not, at least you got to watch the cool music video.

I'm glad you got to see the memorial. It's nice being able to talk about a close friend like that with people who have been close with him as well.

I haven't been to any shows at all in my life actually. It's partly because of where I live and that it would cost a lot to spend the night in a hotel in the city. Plus tickets it would cost around 500 dollars. So I'm saving my first show for AFI. :]

That sucks that your tickets fell through. I went to the Mohegan Sun show in August... best fucking show of my life. Visuals were out of this world, and the music was incredible as expected. I'm sure you've seen videos of the lighting at the shows; if you haven't, get on it NOW. The effects they created with the layered LED screens, especially during the Ghosts segment, were amazing.

stuipd angel said...

I haven't seen them on this tour, but I've seen them a few other times. The last one had a really nice curtain that they played "Hurt" behind while they showed images of different things...pretty cool. They have long been one of my favorite bands to see live...besides another particular band ;)

Ayla said...

That show was nothing less than a-fuckin'-mazing!!! Hell, it even rivaled your shows. "Reptile" live! It doesn't get better than that. Not unless they finally do "The Perfect Drug". And then I'll die. And that'll be one less fan in attendance for your shows.

DO THE NIN VEGAS SHOW, FUCKER! Josh is leaving, it's his last show. It's gonna be epiiiiic. You know it will.
