Ho(me), Ho(me), Ho(me)
I happen to be doing three at the same time. I am on the reading your blog on the internet while enjoying Matt Nathanson on iTunes.
i do....im reading Daughter of Silence by Morris West
Reading is always fun, it's always been one of my favorite activities. I'm currently reading the Shining, it has scared the shit out of me like no tomorrow.I had a hard time between listening to music and reading, but I went with listening to music.
what if you read WHILE listening to music...?hmm.
Well I love to read. I'm reading "Wicked: The life and times of the Wicked Witch of the West" by Gregory Maguire, and also " The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" by Robert Louis Stevenson for college. Im loving them by the way xD
I still do that every once and a while and it feels incredible.
Reading has always been a way for me to cope with things. But while reading I would listen to music to drown out any outside noise that would interrupt me. I am currently re-reading Gunnars Daughter by Singrid Undset. It has pretty much one of the only books I've actually enjoyed in school. I cried when it first ended. Your poll was tough. Sadly, due to the expanse ethics of the educational system, I've had a hard time finding time for a good free-read. So I went with listening to music because I always have time for that.
I LITERALLY sit on the internet, thanks. Actually I listen to music mostly. For lack of good books to read. I went to the bookstore to order Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, but then I realized I was broke. So no Kafka for me.
I love reading, but I find I lack the time or peace to really enjoy it. I have a few books going right now, a novel and some non-fiction works. I find myself multi-tasking while working, and reading just isn't one of those things that fits in my busy-basket.
I chose music cause that's a constant but i am a bookworm! I love reading, i love dissapearing into a book.
"Lyssa said... what if you read WHILE listening to music...?hmm."123.Thats what I call double-tasking. Mhmm. I listening to my AFI and BA tunez and read about people crapping blood through every orafice.Absolutely wonderful. Its almost comparable to hmmm, almost nothing. Ha
i think i have to like reading, because i'm an english major. otherwise i don't think reading two novels a week would sit very well with me. my favorite books are wuthering heights, pride and prejudice, and slammerkin. you should definitely read them. :] actually any of the classics or anything that's historical is pretty much worth a read. i just started on thomas hardy's jude the obscure this week. it seems like it will be somewhat depressing, but i can already see similarities between me and the protagonist, which is always an attention-getter.
Reading is freaking fantastic! I don't understand how people don't like to read. It's pretty sad really.
Listening to music is the one thing I do everyday (besides peeing, pooping, breathing, talking, eating, drinking, walking, sleeping, and blinking). So I picked that.I almost feel guilty when I think about how little I read. I don't count newspapers or magazines because those aren't quite the same as books. When I DO read a book though, I get so engrossed in it and can never put it down. I just need to start finding good books to read I guess.
I wish I could read more. I mean, actually read for enjoyment. When I'm not reading research articles or academic stuff I'm on my computer working. So I always start books and then never have time to finish them. :(
Reading is <3333. I love reading while I'm eating. I didn't have anything new to read today while I was eating my yummy fetuccini with homemade vegan sausages, so I started rereading one of my favorite books (Pride and Prejudice) for the umpteenth time.
Definitely reading, although I prefer to do it somewhere quiet, so no coffee shops for me. It's also why I went into the publishing industry. I'm such a nerd, I used to give up my recesses in fifth grade to volunteer in the school library.
I used to read, but then I went to university and ran out of time to read....books other than textbooks.
I read. A lot. As soon as I'm free, that's usually the first thing I opt to do. Writing is way awesomo too.
I mostly play chess with my cup.mostly.
This is pretty hard to say b/c well you can pretty much do anything on the internet XD, but I know what you meanI'm actually on my 3rd book this week, may take me a while, Dante's Inferno, not too pleasant, but anywho, you've inspired me to go and get some coffee, Peace Out!
I like to read most of the time the book is better that the movie
I read a lot actually.. I am reading your blog right now but I also read books and stuff.. one of my friends is reading ummm crap cant remember what its called tropic of cancer or something like that ... its by henry miller though... apparently you said she should for some reason i dunno heh xD.She dragged me to the library to get a list of books with her and they only had one cause our library sucks. Yeah but anyway, going off topic.. sorta... A lot of people read actually. But a lot of people don't. I normally write. Mostly cause of read half the library but I do read. To answer your question. Before I go on a huge rant again Im gonna end this. :)
Making us pick between reading and listening to music? For shame. Why can't we literally sit on the internet? It's more fun that way...
For me reading an listening to music goes always together. At home, on train, on the bus... everywhere....
I read things on the internet while listening to music. :) Right now all the stuff I am reading is for class which sucks.
Well, I dont usually read on a coffee shop, but I do enjoy good books ^.^(right now, i'm readin 'de profundis' by Oscar Wilde ♥, and really likin it)But its really not fair to make us choose between readin and music, I love both so much!Wonder what you read at the moment. Any good recomendation?xoxo
I read and listen to music. But since I can only vote once, I picked reading. Although, I do multitask where I read, listen to music, get online, watch tv, and talk to someone all at the same time. It's amazing. :)
Zitkala-sa is my love this year, mark strand and judy jordan as well
I am reading a book right now. I am reading The Herion Diaries by Nikki Sixx, which is amazing book.
I hate how I'm in college and people have trouble wrapping their heads around the idea that I read for pleasure. It's crazy. But to be honest, I listen to music more than I read.
You left an option out of your poll: writing. More than anything else I write when I go out to coffee shops. I see a whole lot of other folks writing as well.
I went with "sitting on the internet" because thats what I do more of these days, since I don't have a lot of spare time to read. But if I did have spare time I would most definitely read before playing on the internet. It also depends on if there is something good I want to read. <3
I love reading, but the side effects from chemotherapy make it difficult. My eyesight, memory, and concentration are challenged daily. It is torture because I finally have the time to sit, relax, and read as I am not current working. It is a shame. (I guess I could get some books on audio, but it is not the same experience. Hmmm...)My son, Adair, has a voracious appetite for reading. He is only fourteen and recently read 'Lord of the Flies' and 'Catcher in the Rye' for pleasure. I read to him in the womb and daily for much of his childhood. He always saw me reading as well. When he went to preschool, his teacher actually complained that he wanted to read most of the time. Yes, you read that correctly. Sad, isn't it?
i dont usually read at coffee shops i do it at home like two hours a day (yes i do i love reading!)now i'm reading"why me" by valeria piazza polizzi wich is a good book i'm liking it =)
I hope you went to Peet's and not some other shitty coffee joint.
Do I read? Hell yes. I read on the train to work, I read on the bus, I read while I ride my bicycle. I read before I fall asleep, during my lunch and on my days off.I'm a writer and my sister is a librarian so I a love of books definitely runs in the family. I've just finished Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer and am working on Heat by Bill Buford and assorted magazines.
I've been reading a lot lately. I just finished the Twilight series. And now I was planning on picking up Youth In Revolt from your recommendation. =DBut I do enjoy the music, and obviously sitting on the internet as well.
Hmmmm, I do all of the above except video games and with music either coming from the computer speakers or from the music player. So... listening to music(:
I don't read so much myself, but when I used to use the train alot there were always people sat in the station coffee shops reading.
Well, I always read and listen to music at the same time. I love reading and I love music, so they go well together! Atm I'm re-reading The Lord Of The Rings trilogy again and I'm also reading Catcher in the Rye at the same time. Awesome books! What are you reading? <3
Well, I actually make lists of books I want to read because there are so many. So many books, not enough time but I am currently reading Kafka on the Shore.Just finished reading Soul Kitchen, took me a day and it was a great book.Music is always there, as well, how could it not be?
I love reading. But the problem I find with reading a good book is that I tend to get so wrapped up in it that I find it hard to put the damn thing down. It consumes me so much that I have to finish it in one sitting. So, I tend to forego sleep. I say to myself, "One more hour and I'll sleep." Or, "I'll read it just a little bit more. I can function on 3 hours sleep." Pretty soon it's 7am, and I'm kicking back a 1 hour nap before I have to go to work.
I ♥ to read books but sadly I don't have enough time atm to do it, because of school. But when I have time I love to read. and most times I listen to music then as well, but not if I'm reading something science related or so, like the last German National Geographic, there was an interesting article about animals being able to think like humans...
Well, my friends call me 'the old one.'My past time is reading and listening to music. Pity I read 300 page books in an hour. My paycheck can't keep up. Nor can Palahniuk.JXH
i love doing all of these! but i have to say that i have been on the internet quite a bit lately (especially over at my livejournal posting random things nearly every night) and the same goes for music, although i've been overspending on my music and now have a pile up to my knee to listen to!!i don't get to read as often as i like to. and i haven't been in the mood to play video games either.
Ah lord. I think people are lying when the pick reading. To be honest, I sit on the internet most of the time. -Internet (while listening to music.)-Reading -Video games (while listening to music.)♥
I always go to Starbucks to read for a couple of hours. There's nothing like coffee and a good book. I can't believe so few people read...it's truly sad and shocking. I'd have a panic attack if I ran out of books!DQ x
well, i'm a librarian (and an English lit major in a former life) so i read tons by default. unfortunately, because of my job most of what i read is work related and not also my choice (for book discussions, etc). you should try goodreads.com, if you don't use it already. i almost always have a book on me and i used to be an audiobook addict. ok, so i don't carry a book when i go to home depot. this country has a serious problem with aliteracy. this topic reminds me--you never told us what the book was that you bought davey that he already had? forgive my randomness, it is too early to form a coherent thought.
well I love to multi task ;op... I love reading whilst listening to music. I lean towards reading more than listening to music these days .... as I have so many books to catch up on. I am currently reading 3 books. On your recommendation I have started reading Youth in Revolt (which is friggin' hilarious), 924 Gilman by Brian Edge (which is interesting though not a literary masterpiece) and 100 Years of Solitude by GGM which is excellent.Music wise.... listening to (as always) AFI/BA, Rise Against, SOAD, The Smiths/Morrissey, and some classic Rolling Stones to name a few....Internet, love it... just never have enough time for it :o(Also I can't remember the last time I sat if a coffee shop and just read a book or newspaper (memo to self to make some time :o)
while listening to some music is my #1, reading is a close second. i'm a book whore.
i didnt vote as what i enjoy doing best and what i do most often are not the same, so it wouldnt be a fair representation for me. my work means i must spend allot of time on line....but that is way longer than i get enjoyment from.and due to the time comsuming nature of my work (if you dont know, im a stopmotion animator) i listen to loads of music, but dont really get the time to read much.i am however VERY proud to say that i have never played a computer game in my life!i was thinking though...the rising popularity of blogging means that, these days, the way to be popular is to write well. that could be the start of a good change dont you think?
Yeah... Ouch that's such a toughie. Three of them are my most practiced activities. Being that I'm really not that big a reader, but I really am trying nowadays -- I'm half way through House of Leaves!! :)But yes, I'm usually doing the other three reasonably simultaneously. If I'm on the computer, (which I almost always am), I'm listening to music. And I play computer games most of the time. ^_^ They're all so good!!
I attend college right now as a writing major with a philosophy minor. So yes, by default, I read quite a lot. Still, though, my non-school-related list is growing quite long. I am reading Life of Pi by Yann Martel, The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie (which I highly recommend to anyone and everyone), and am also rereading The Lord of the Rings. I also have Children of Hurin (Tolkien's newest) on hiatus, and am part of the way through rereading The Silmarillion. After I finish my "currently reading" list, I am going to start White Teeth, by Zadie Smith, and The Road by Cormac McCarthy. We don't have real coffee shops around here (I go to school in Wilkes-Barre, PA) so the closest thing I can come to what you did is to sit in the cafe at Barnes and Noble, which I do quite a lot. What has REALLY gone out of style is poetry. (Speaking of which, you should pick up the collection "Crush," by Richard Siken. It's simply gorgeous.)This comment was too long.
That was a hard one because I usually read while having some music on.
I always have music playing, whether I'm reading or surfing the net, so I chose that. There are times when I realize I've been wasting my whole evening online and so I ban myself from it in the evening-time for a few days, so I can catch up on some reading. I should finish this Cussler book today, then I can start the Pratchett book that's calling out to me.
I do like reading, but I like listening to music more so I chose that one...and oh em gee!! You posted stuff on my birthday!! <3 w00t!
That one's tough because usually I listen to music while on the internet. I do love me some books though and video games. Final Fantasy is the best role playing game that's ever been.
i LOVE reading books... i read at least 2 a months... and not just fun books its really stuff to think about it! my fave right now: the wave! i read it in just a few hours! but i also love my internet HAHA and i found something which you HAVE to see if you havent seen it before:http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=hkqqMPPg2VI&feature=relatedits the cutest thing in the world lol..
You didn't put "reading while listening to music", which is what I enjoy doing.I also do my fair share of sitting on the internet. Literally.*mwah*
I hate that you put music on there because I listen to music and read about the same amount of time. I put music though. But I really enjoy reading. Im reading The Other Boleyn Girl and a Dale Carnegie book right now.
To add to my other comment I also read WHILE I listen to music. So that was really hard to choose
I'd have to say that you're right. You always see people on their laptops, not reading books.
Hm, y' know, now that I think about it, I do seem to be the odd one out with my rampant public episodes of reading. I guess I never noticed it before cuz I always had my nose in a book. But I do tend to be plugged into my iPod while I'm at it.
I read a lot, enjoy it more than watching movies really. I am in a class called Literature of Science Fiction this semester. It is quiet fun (except we have been assigned nearly 15 books to read and it's difficult to find time to read them quickly enough). I just read "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. Dick and could not put it down. It's a quick read, only took a couple days worth of free time. I highly suggest reading it.
Yeah reading seems to be an out-dayed activity. I love it but then maybe I am outdated?
When is the EP being released because wikipedia says April 1 ?
Wow, I sure found this poll difficult! I mean I often read while listening to music and surfing the internet at the same time. I do worship the written word though... only wish I had more time to devote to it. Right now I'm finishing the Princess Bride. Then I'll read a book about the myth of Tristan et Iseult (en français of courss!)
I'm on a serious Stephen King kick right now. I'm currently reading "Black House" and then I'll be moving on to "Bag of Bones" next.
I do all of those, Except video gamez. XD I don't play those alot. I'm reading "The world book of poetry" It has like 2,523 pages. But it's very interesting. I like coffee. XD
Writing and listening to music mostly. I go through phases when I read and when I don't. Currently, I'm slowly slinking back into the reading thing, and enjoying "Darkly Dreaming Dexter"
It is quite unfortunate that many people don't read anymore. I like listening to music and reading at the same time. Right now I'm reading all of the books that I blew off in high school. I find that books are much better when someone isn't forcing you to read them.
Right this minute I am: listening to Daft Punk, on the internet, and reading. There should be a choice for more than one of the above. Reading, as in books, is done at night, before sleep usually or mid afternoon with tea. The rest of the day is mostly work.
well, I read a lot....I'm reading Michel Foucault right now. And listening to AFI, actually.
I read when I have spare time. Which, since I usually have tons of it, I'm always reading. Like now... Choke by Chuck P.Wow, that man is a genius.
Reading is always a very good thing to take part in and also very relaxing. I haven't really read anything in quite sometime just for fun, I think I should do that though....I enjoy music more than really anything =].
I usually listen to music, but reading is excellent too. Like I love Green Angel by by Alice Hoffman, because it's just cool, and I'm currently reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. (I'm learning a LOT of German cuss words thanks to The Book Thief. It's very useful to call someone a dirty pig and not get in trouble because no one else around knows what the hell you're talking about.)But I've been known to multi-task and do both at the same time, which I think is ideal when you love two things. Auf Wiedersehen! <3
i sit on the computer, listen to music, and read all at the same time...im a 'multi-tasker'=)haha...
I love to read, but I'm finding that more and more I don't have time to read, whereas I always have time to plug my ipod into my ears, and listen to music.yet. if I could have picked every option on the poll, I would have... but that's just me, and I love sitting aimlessly on the internet as much as reading a good book.I think the fact that I'm studying film also helps with that, because I watch more films and DVDs than reading books, because I have to. But I don't know, when I don't have to do work, I do read quite a lot.
Reading as a pasttime never used to be high on my list, but now i love it. So many things about it just feel good. I voted for listening to music though, because that I do in excess.
Actually Jade, I still love reading. Perhaps my favorite book lately has been Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, as well as Ludlum's The Bourne Supremacy. I don't know about you, but I found Diary by Chuck Palahniuk to be quite refreshing. If I had to choose one that was timeless, it'd be A Separate Peace by John Knowles.
I read a lot, actually. I'm always too dead after school that I'll just turn on my stereos and start reading books.I don't really even spend that much time in the internet, I'm too busy for that to be done every day.
You know, my english teacher when he sees someone reading, a novel, he praises them. Hah. This just reminded me of this.
I normally just listen to music, while on the internet.Reading is fun.If I enjoy it, My next book will be Youth In Revolt ;DI probably won't have MUCH time to read it once I get it, AP English is intense. We're going to be starting Romeo & Juliet. Then I want to read The Outsiders, I hear its better than the movie. So I'm opt to read it.AND.Video games are like, beyond amazing.Though I have to admit, I picked music for your poll.Sorry :]
I'm reading the story of afi
I recently finished an absolutely fantastic book and I suggest you pick it up in the near future (stop me if you think you've read this one before)-The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan KunderaIt rivals Fountainhead in my "favorite books ever" -- you know how much that says. Now go purchase it.(Reading in a coffee shop? Oh.)
Saukerl! ha! I must agree, The Book Thief is one of the most amazing books I have read in the past couple of years. It is such a powerful WW2 story. I read predominantly teen fiction, as a young adult librarian. And some of the teen fic I read are on my top list of books, period. Another amazing book I read recently--Tamar : a Novel of Espionage, Passion, and Betrayal by Mal Peet (another WW2 story). As much as I love teen lit, it is giving me cabin fever (redrum) and I desperately need an adult read. seriously. Hey Jade, you should have a book club like Oprah. ha!
I read AND listen to music at the same time when I'm on the train or out. I picked listening to music because I can do that while I drive and am stuck in my office - isn't this day over yet? I download a lot of books, scripts etc. to my Palm and read them there - I have a lot of friends who write for a living and if it's all on my Palm, I don't have to print things off or carry a bunch of books around.
i read medical books for myself and children books for my kids. at this time in my life i find their intellect more important than my own! besides they are going to be running our country one day they should know what a book is.lol they are only 10 and 2 but, 30 min of reading(something) EVERY DAY!
Actually, funny you shoudl mention it. I'm really trying to get back into reading. I re-read the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and I'm now reading The Picture of Dorian Grey. How about you give us a top 5 books list, or something? Hmmm? Please?
i do that all of the time cause i love reading so much!!
I was actually thinking about that yesterday when I was reading.I actually just took a break from reading.I've always loved to read. All my friends and family like to joke around and say that I read too much.I do read a lot.I agree, it seems like not many people read anymore unless they have to.Its all the new shiny technology they keep throwin at us.lol.O well, I got to go back to readin =](Do I sound like total nerd or what? =] )XOXO
My choice of activity would be listening to music. But I do read from time to time. Sometimes I read way too much, and my parents would beg me to go to bed xD But the book can be so interesting, I can't put it down!I'm currently reading Eclipse :]
BOOKS ARE FOR BURNINGxI try to read, but honestly, I've not read a book n the past five years that I've thoroughly enjoyed.
I do still read quite a lot of the time, but I have to say not as much as I used to. I listen to music whenever I read too.
I love to read. I don't have much time for it, though, and lately I find that I'm reading more for school-related things than just for the fun of it. I recently finished How I Live Now; it's one of my favourite books ever. It was beautiful.<3
I love to read. But I do tend to sit on the internet and talk to people a lot more. I guess one day readings just going to be one of those lost arts or something
I think it depends on what your in the mood for? and reading can happen with those activities, but books are super cool. Anyways in the future robots will do all those things in some extreme multi task way so humans wont have to. Weird. I think thats increadi-lazy
I love reading but at the same time I can never turn down a chance to listen to music... they both calm me...
random thing:my boyfriend made be believe you were dead last night because you had gotten into a horrible car crash. I almost cried. Luckily he was joking because the music industry would really suck if you werent there anymore =)You must promise me you will never die. =)love, pumpkin.queen
reading is my past time of choice...quickly followed and normally equalled with listening to music! I am currently reading your suggestion of Youth In Revolt!
I love reading. I always have. I always really enjoy listening to music though.(As in, AFI, etc.) That's how I cope with the situations I get into. But I read because I find words facinating, and it's an escape. I'm indulging myself in the 'Twilight' series right now.How about a Semiotic Love or The Love Letter instrumental? ;)
If I weren't so darn lazy, I would read all the time; Bradbury is pretty much the greatest person ever. Unfortunately, reading seems mildly constructive, and I would hate to do anything constructive. I have taken to going to the library and picking out a random book and reading it all in one go...it's fun, except when you happen to pick a really depressing book...ARGH my comments are far too long.
i read ALL the time. Right now i'm reading Eclipse which is by Stephenie Meyer. Its a very good book and if you havn't read it, you should. The last point was aimed at other people (not just Jade) that are on the blog. But mostly Jade.
I tend to listen to music and figuratively sit on the internet for exorbitant amounts of time simultaneously (what's with these long words? booooo.) but the former is so much more gratifying than the latter.I only like reading when I have a good book to do so with. Right now, I do: Dracula is amazing. And I'm not really a gamer, but I'll always have time for Pokemon or Legend of Zelda. <3
Between Breaths for the Blaqk Audio instrumental.I always have a book and at least one magazine in my messenger bag. I love when I get an unexpected free moment where I can pull out the book or mag and read for a bit. When I was a kid (many moons ago), my mother always encouraged me to read. She said that she didn't care if it was a book, magazine, newspaper or comic, as long as I was reading something. It was nightly ritual to read before bed. I still do that to this day, but sometimes the reading material is in cyberform rather than the traditional paper format.
I do enjoy reading but I actually prefer music. You can do it anywhere... unlike reading. I get dizzy reading while in a car.
I'd read more if I had the time, but school tends to devour my life these days. Fortunately, we tend to read good literature in English; we just finished reading both Hamlet and Macbeth, and they were amazing.
I just read Pariah. Its riveting. Charles Romalotti has a sick mind.
I used to read a lot. I still read, but not as much as I used to. I suppose I read more than most though...currently I'm into Ted Dekker's book titled Red. It's the sequel to Black. Quite interesting, actually. I'm a multi-tasker though. I can be watching TV, listening to music and reading and know what's happening in all three.
Hmmm... That's going to be a hard choice considering I enjoy all of those things. I happen to be reading "Bag of Bones" by Stephen King and listening to Daft Punk AND on the internet. Wow. I'm a real multi-tasker!
I do read a lot actually. But if I *had* to choose one of those because I would never be able to do two at once anymore, I'd choose listening to music.Lame and unoriginal but true.
Believe it or not, my favorite hobby is chilling out in coffee shops. With a book, music or just chatting with a friend.I do knitting circles too ^^
I have to admit I stopped reading for a while. Mostly because of the lack of things that interest me out there. However, lately, I've been getting back into it. Though I'm still having trouble finding things that hold my interest for more than a few chapters (I'm a nonfiction fan).
Jade you need to make a list of all the remix's you've done so we can listen to them! Seriously the Tokio Hotel one is awesome!
I wanted to add something about the internet. When you live in a small town where nothing much happens, it can be a window to civilization.
well there are only so many good books nowadays. It's hard for me to find them, but I do need to get the new-ish Chuck P book.
I can't believe you are making me choose between books and music. Not cool. The would you rather eat a million bugs or a dead person poll was easier than this. I'm currently rereading the Kushiels series by Jaqueline Carey. You might want to check them out, they are pretty good/ amazing.
That's all I've been doing for the past two months for the most part. I finished two books in one day last weekend actually. A book and my iPod are really the main things I need right now for a day at home. It saddens me that more people don't read these days.
i usually read camus while i play final fantasy and listen to bright eyes
reading = yes.coffee shop = yes.reading @ coffee shop = no.
Mine is writing, sad to see that that wasn't there.I think there are still a few people that read nowa days.I got on the bus this morning and at least 5 people out of a full bus were reading.Maybe it's just America. You should move to Australia :P
......I am a reader.....the Liberian kept count or how many books this year.....300 so far
hey jade...you should put one more choice on the poll: reading on the internet!i do a lot of that...xo
I tend to read and listen to music at same time. Right now I'm reading The Space Merchants (by Frederik Pohl and Cyril M. Kornbluth), though I've read it thrice but it is such a great book.
I read a lot. I find it cathartic to pick up a book and dissolve into that world. For the time that you're reading that book- if it's a good one at least- you have no problems other than the character's. I'm currently reading Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes and Master of the Game by Sydney Sheldon who happens to be my favourite author. I've lost count how many times I've re-read a number of his books.
I like reading cus it makes you disappear. I also like the ones who sorta like swallow you and you can't stop reading them. But it's too hard for me to find books that actually do that...Usually I get bored too damn easily and drop them.Did you read anything from Adolfo Bioy Casares? Morel's Invention (which in my modest opinion is quite good) is actually a book that Sawyer's reading in Lost this season. So I guess I go with listen to music all the time :P
I regret not making the time to read more myself these days, since I was one of those crazy voracious readers as a kid who tailed her mom around the commissary with a book in one hand and held onto the cart with the other so I wouldn't get lost. I've noticed, though that my literary tastes run way more to non-fiction these days. I've been picking up and putting down the same Haruki Murakami book for the last three years, but I tore through the last Anthony Bourdain memoir. Yeah, I know the dude's a coke-snorting enemy of all vegetarians, but he still cracks my shit up.(and Chuck P. is the literary equivalent of an angry Hot Topic shirt *cough* but you didn't hear that from me)I've never considered listening to music an independent activity, though. The iPod is chugging along with me at least 12 hours a day. I'm sure everyone looks at me funny when I'm struttin' through Fry's to Simian Mobile Disco, but I know they're just jealous they don't have my moves.
I read all the time. When I was 13-15, it was pretty much all I did, I didn't give a shit about music (that changed significantly, though). I also have to read a lot at the moment, for my Matura. Wilde, Austen, Bradbury, Kafka, Goethe, Schiller, Hesse, Horvath... I don't have time to read these two books I got for my birthday, because I really need to get on with the other ones for my finals >.<There's never enough time to read all one wants to :(
Well, it's more like a lot of people read, but in a lot of different ways, but you'll find the most unexpected people read like 300 pages books at home while chatting online(kind of creepy?).I just watch too much movies(avg. 2-3 per day), read nonfiction and write. What do you usually read & favourite books?@+
By the way about new music, check out Pagoda self titled!especially if you like grungy, India-influenced and sweet vocals w/ cello. Or Michael Pitt. ;oI am so not promoting them. :|Peace.@+
I'd rather read, but I always have music on anyways. Right now I'm reading Edgar Allen Poe
what if you like listening to music AND reading?
I went with music... I love reading, but I haven't had time to read anything I've wanted to since school started.
Admittedly, I don't read nearly as much as I used to. Things have been hella stressful and I just can't seem to focus on anything for very long. It's sad since reading has always been one of my favourite 'go-to activities'. Perhaps one day I'll get myself straightened out and rediscover the magical world of reading. Here's hoping..
The poll is all messed up for me...it saysActivity of Choice?Christian SirianoRamietc. That made me laugh.I actually visited this used bookstore where they had all these old bestseller type books for one to three bucks a piece.Win.
It's honestly a tie between Reading and Listening to Music.I am actually in the middle of reading The Great Gatsby and The Castle by Franz Kafka. I love my some Kafka.:]
Heeeeyyyyyy -.-why is your Dancing through sunday solo so hardd???
im not gonna lie, i do not read, thats probably why im not so smart.
i love to read. i guess im a dork, but whenever i have spare time and have nothing new on the web,i pull out a book.:]love ya jade.
being a fan of gy!be, i thought you might enjoy this-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKNpTC2Nuos
I love reading but the best is sitting on the internet. It's just so damn squishy! lol.. wow I'm pathetic. No but really I love reading but enjoy listening to music even more.Peace Homie
I can do Math while Listening to AFI :D. And if i really want to move my 4 finger hand,I listen toBlaqk Audio! :D Cool I know!(i stink at math i use a copy of my times table,I also have4 fingers on my rigth hand)The hand i rith....
I Love to read and listen to music at the same time. So that poll is difficult for me :pBut i dont knowalot of my friends read.I bought like 7 books yesterday. So i would say its still the go to activity :]much love<3
Who read Harry Potter the 7th book?(the last book)I did it tock me like 3 weeks...It was summer and i can spend hrs and hrs readinga a really bad ass good Awesome good book.
I adore reading. This past summer, I got dumped, and to keep my mind off of it, I read.I ended up reading over 70 books this summer.I think you need to get some Francesca Lia Blocks and throw them in Davey's general direction, because they inspire me like nothing else.Know any good books?
I wishh I read.. but unfortunately, I rarely do.Apparently there's alot of good books out there, I can just never seem to find one that intrigues me enough to open it!listening to music & going on the internet was kind of a tie, since I do them both everyday.Although, I did end up choosing listening to music.
You should read Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris (Or anything by him, actually). I'm reading it for the second time.
Reading, but in actuality, all of the above.
I loved reading, well I guess I still do but going to university and doing an English Literature degree was probably a bad move as now I never get to read books I want to read as there simply isn't time. This is my final year though, so hopefully when I'm free of enforced reading, I'll rediscover the love!
I do all of those... AT ONCE.
I love reading and listening to music. I finished Carrie by Stephen King an hour ago. And I will read House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski in English next time. I love reading books written in English too.:) /my motherlanguage is Hungarian/ And by the strange chance, if I find a book what I want to read, then in most cases, that book is not translated into Hungarian. lol But it can't keep me back from reading those books.
coffee shop + book = Perfection!
I'm doing all four at the same time. I happen to be listening to The Force on iTunes, reading this blog, and playing MCR computer game, "Sweet Revenge!!"Its an addicting game, actually!!
ello jade.how are you?i notice you always change your layout... so i thought that these might help.:]http://www.pyzam.com/bloggertemplatesmuch love.
I read whenever I get a chance. If I don't have book in my face then I'm either real busy at work, driving, or asleep pretty much. You should relly see my Barnes and Noble or Borders bags I have mountians of them. They are really good for litter box clean up. Nice and sturdy.
reading is perfect^^my parents teach me that books are really interesting thing...suck a new world..with new characters..lifes..genres..you drown in this world deeper and deeper..such a drug..you forgot about all your life..book-is your life..i`m a big fan of ann rice..and now i`m reading Memnoch The Devil by ann rice..only started..
An article in Playboy talked about how almost fifty percent of American adults NEVER read for pleasure. That's right. I was reading an article in Playboy. They've got some good prose in there.
delocator.net is a gem site for finding that independent alternative to starbucks from distant city to city.delocate.
I love reading, technology can get funkier and more advanced but there'll never be anything as satisfying as sitting down with a good book. The last one I read was Mother's Milk by Edward StAubyn, which was great. I don't know what to read next though, I have a lot of texts for school that I'm studying which have been getting priority recently because of looming exams.
Speaking of reading. You should buy the movie, The Suicide Club. It's Japanese so it has to be good.Ya feel?
People who read in coffee shops are attention whores. 'Oh look at me I read.. in public. Don't I look smart.' No, no you do not actually get over yourself. No one cares that you read. Go home.
I love listening to music. But since I listen to it on both my computer and Last.fm , I'm on the internet every so often. I love my ZUNE.Reading is amazing too when I find the right books.
i luv reading :)
i love reading the classics; I just bought treasure island, a tale of two cities and 20,000 leagues under the sea; woot.
As soon as I finish a buncha chores, I will be reading "253" by Geoff Ryman (awesome British sf writer - check him out) listening to "The Odd Couple" by Gnarls Barkley as soon as I dl it, and keeping up with friends on YahooIM. Reading/music/internet combo ftw! :)
I read on the internet while listening to music, right now, Tokio Hotel.
forgot to say the other day:*wake up,open the door and escape to the sea* or * between breaths*(pretty much to judge from whence the tingle comes in that one)
hooooo Jade I really like read but here in mexico is weir that people read someting anyway, I'm reading Blackwood Farm by Anne Rice I enjoy read and listen music but music without voice, any kind, Read is like create a new world in your mind....
Read anything by Arther Nersessian. I was hanging out with Mat from Kill Hannah at a show here months ago and he was reading The Fuck Up by him, so I checked it out and am now addicted to all he writes. Especially Chinese Takeout.
I love to read, I just finished the fourth Maximum Ride book by James Patterson and now im reading Midnighters by Scott Westerfeild. But I chose listening to music...
My friends were JUST makeing fun of me for sitting at the lunch table, drinking a green tea and reading a book - not paying attention to them.Youth In Revolt is fantastic, by the way. When I finish it, I've got The Road to read next. I read the first 20 pages in the bookstore's cafe the other day, and it was good.
Man... Reading is wonderful but I couldn't live without music... Then again my goal is to become an author... This is too hard to choose.
i would much rather pick up a book than turn on the tv any day to be completely honest. i'm in the middle of youth in revolt right now actually. thanks for mentioning it! it's hilarious.
I do go-to activity. I dance. And walk. And and and....Um.....Run. XD and I skateboard if that counts for any thing. Oh and about 2 or 3 weeks ago I signed up for DF and it won't let me loggin. What am I doing wrong? And if it doesn't let me loggin,I'll cry.
I like to read, but good books are hard to find. Seemingly interesting titles make me buy the book but also fall asleep on the first few pages. Sucks. Any good books to recommend?
I work at a coffee shop but I choose not to read. I really love to read once I can convince myself to open the book but I usually don't get that far. :)
I read far too much. Currently reading Picture of Dorian Gray, should be done soon though.
I like to sit in coffee shops and read kids books, thats always cool...sitting, drinking mocha, wearing sunglasses because the lights are right in the wrong place and reading "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" or "We're Going On A Bear Hunt"I'm reading a book I found in the college library that has a picture of Davey Havok on the cover...I really have no idea why it does though...
Happy Easter Jade!Hope you have all the pastel colored candy possible.Niko
I read all the time! I have, at least two - three books going at the same time. Sooo many books, sooo little time!I'm currently reading The Road by Cormac MCarthy and The Italian Secretary by Caleb Carr. I usually listen to my ipod while I read - hence I did not participate in your poll.
i spent the past two months re-reading all the Animorphs books >.> haha. i do most of my reading in the summer though. i read for college but it's not as fun when you know there's a paper to write afterwards...
I am reading the news on the internet and your blog, trying to figure out why China put a block on blogspot so I can't blog anymore and listening to music all at the same time. If I could find books in English I would buy them and read them. Also there is a big lack of music in English. I can't wait to go home again. So everything I do is off the net, is that good?
I voted for listening to music since music is a most integral part of my life and no matter what I'm doing I tend to be listening to music as well. but I have to say I do spend a lot of time reading just so you know its aot a dead art :-)
Would it be redundant to say that I can read, listen to music and sit on the internet at the same time?Currently, I'm sitting here on the internet, rereading Silence of the Lambs, and listening to music.
I love to read
I think people are reading more despite the net, I read while listening to AFI & BA,,in the car, on I-pod, on I-Tunes,,,Im now reading 'The Kite Runner',, and just finished Marilyn Mansons Bio,,,'The Long Road out of Hell' great books if you have the time,,Music definetly enhances a good book,,like cookies go with green tea,,,
I was reading The Judas by Steve Jackson...then mid-terms hit -.-
I still read..Often...
I love reading but i wish i had more time for it...i think a lot of people feel this way. Today is too busy.
Hi Jade. I didn't get to vote on your poll but I spend most of my free time reading anything and everything. Even when I'm supposed to be doing my school-being Homeschooled is great! I can hide mystery book behind my Chemistry textbook. LOL
I like to read, but I don't do it as much as I'd like to. Sometimes I find myself staring at a computer screen, out a window or at the floor for long periods of time, and I think I should be reading. So, sometimes I do. I have too many books I'm in the middle of currently: Atlas Shrugged, The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Courts: A Comparative Analysis, my co-workers Sociology text book, and Anthems of a Reluctant Prophet. I only read to make myself sound more intelligent, apparently. You should make some lists again, Jade, that have to do with books - your favorites, the best ones to read while traveling by land and/or air, books that have made you smarter, ones you wish you had never read, etc. I'd dig it.
i agree, nobody reads anymore! you should have listsannd i can recommend to anyone that they read any Chuck Palahniuk book!he wrote "Fight CLub" but as amazing as that is i will say his best work is "Invisible Monsters"so really if you start reading that you cannot stopor "Notes From Underground"-Dostoevsky
Yeah its a sad thing...people don't get that there is a whole other amazing experience out there called reading. I'm reading Conffessions of Zeno right now by Italo Svevo. Its good and its a classic...two for one baby. uhhh...so Jade i think i heard once that you said you wanted to write a book..you should. that would be sick. are you still thinking about that??
I try to read a lot, but end up reading a lot of older books/authors because every time I pick up a newer author that is on the "NY Times best seller list", I'm disappointed time and again by the shallowness of the story.Maybe, I'm just picking the wrong modern books to read or maybe it's too much to hope to find a Dostoevsky or Anthony Burgess in today's writing world. The best newer books I've read have all been by the Russian author who does the Watch series (Lukyanenko).Sorry to be a wet rag in this thread, since it's great people are reading. So nvm me and my whining :)
I got to this way too late....but I've got to put in a comment. My favorite activity would be reading, and it saddens me that people just don't read enough...or if they do they often read worthless crap. Reading and music, you can't go wrong...right Hahdeh?
I love to read :D I mostly just read (auto)biographies of rockstars though. I just read Nikki Sixx - The Heroin Diaries which was sad :(
