Okay, I have an excuse this time, I'm on tour.

Speaking of which, it's been some kind of spectacular so far, playing in these smaller cities is refreshing, up close and personal, so you can smell the ripeness of our sweaty shirts.

I have to talk about the apple pie I ate last night, it looked like this:

and it was hands down the best apple pie I've ever ate. Who would have thought I'd find it at a Hyatt in Buffalo.

Anyway, moving on.

Another occurence that took place in my hotel room:
The lamp was casting a shadow off of the fire sprinkler on the ceiling that looked exactly like a little cannon, so I drew a little cannonball coming out of it. Now when people stay in that room they'll notice a disembodied cannonball on the ceiling all day until they turn on the lamp at night and a shadow cannon appears. It'll be magical.

Our video for Medicate is done, which you're probably aware of, and it looks like this:

I'll have you know that I got several blisters shooting that.

We did a signing a few days ago and a guy had the Crash Love logo tattoed on the palm of his hand:

So, the tour goes swimmingly, onwards we go.

ahh the medicate video is amazing!
you guys need to come to the UK very soon!

i love apple pie :) and the picture looks unbelievably delicious.
as for the music video, it was surprising and not the usual AFI-music-video. but then again, you guys are unique in every album. [btw, crash love was AMAZING]

so hooray!! and i cant wait til you guys come to columbia!!! im crossing my fingers and hoping i can go!!

CaughtBetween said...

I like the music video! You bleed gold paint in it tough... I'd draw a canon ball too, but to my misfortune all of the shadows cast near my place look like what they are. :/

Anonymous said...

OMG that's the best idea ever. the cannon. i'll remember to do something like that if i ever see that happen.

Jared said...

don't know if you read these, but i would really fucking love to hear the boy who destroyed the world at the clifton park show tomorrow. seriously. you guys could get on stage, fart for an hour and a half, and play that song, and i would consider that an awesome show.

so you know, maybe take that into consideration?

Please tell me you asked the gentleman how it felt to recieve a tattoo on the palm. I know I've always wondered...How did he drive afterwards??

Kera said...

Haha that's awesome. Hope to see you guys soon in California!

namedannette said...

You guys were absolutely amazing in Columbus. It was the first time I have ever seen AFI preform live and you made it the best night ever. Thank you so much!

Ok. You're excused. Especially after such an informative post. Well, I want to smell your sweaty shirt. Ok, NOT. I just want to be at a concert close enough where that could happen. Actually a woman can tell a lot by the smell of a guy. You know, who is compatible and who has good genes and all that.
Sorry, random, but I think you're used to that.
So was the band tired of Davey always being the one to die and now you guys wanted in on that :D
There is probably some deeper meaning but most of that stuff goes right over my head.
Well, thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to "talk" to all of us. Love the cannonball story. You just crack me up :P

helen099 said...

apple pie-wise, that's only because you've never tried my apple pie. maybe someday... anyway, i'm glad you're eating well on the road. :D

see you on saturday. hope i get to smell your sweat. JK

Tour is a very nice excuse. I approve. I'll be seeing you guys in Victoria, December 21st, btw.

I also approve of the apple pie, hotel room cannonball, the Medicate video, and the crash love symbol tattoed on the palm of that guy's hand (whutttt). I'm not so sure about the palm of your hand as a good place for a tattoo. Might get kinda faded.

Anyway, the owl in the Medicate video is just about the best thing ever. Of course, I didn't notice it until my cousin pointed it out. I love owls. Large dancing owls ftw.

My friend went to the Buffalo concert today! (well it's 12:45 am now so it was technically yesterday :P). Anyway, she was right in the front near your side. In the end she got a DU pick that had "JADE!!!" on the back. Of course I'm jealous because I wish I had a guitar pick from you. My life would then be almost complete. I am really planning to see you guys in New York at Roseland Ballroom!

Jessica said...

Totally unrelated to anything, but meh...

So, I was checking out random AFI stuff on youtube, and eventually came across this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xPyJl_3Q74

Apparently someone thought that "Too Shy to Scream" fit perfectly to Beyonce's "Single Ladies" video, and yeah, they were definitely right.

Just thought this might amuse a few people...

I'll see you at one of those refreshing cities: Tulsa, Cain's Ballroom. Hope you had a good time there in the past; hope this time exceeds your expectations. Love CrashLove! <3

The show in Minneapolis was amazing!
I had a blast, everything sounded great.

I love your excited-everything-is-wonderful blogs! You made my night, Jade. Completely. (And the cannonball is magically hilarious! But I'm sure the hotel won't appreciate it much. Because, as we all know, hotels don't have senses of humor. [I can't tell if that last sentence was grammatically correct, but I'm too tired to check, so I'm just going to pretend it was. {Brackets within brackets within brackets. I'm so awesome when I'm tired.}])

Haha, love the cannonball. If I ever see a cannonball drawn on a ceiling I will think of you.
I saw the new video, and I just had to mention that Davey now has got a strange resemblance to the Norwegian stylist Jan Thomas: http://frostbite.no/blog/wp-content/janthomas.gif

I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing x]. Have fun on tour!

Mrs Bitter said...

If you come near Spain while on tour you're invited to come to Spain to taste my delicious and world recognized apple pie. Though I have to say that my recipe is quite different than the american one.
Nice work on your solo guitar on medicate; I think it's epic.

Mrs Bitter said...

If you love apple pie I invite to come to Spain to taste mine (providing you do a European tour), though is a very different kind than the American one I can assure it's epic.
Did I tempted you to come play in Spain?? It was my intention all along, tough the pie offer still stands.

The best apple pie I've ever had was at my elementary school in Atlanta. So amazing, nothing even compares. Pretty cool that I actually had some the same night as you.

I'm glad you're enjoying yourself on tour. I'm hoping to make it to the ATL show. I saw you and Davey there in 07 for Blaqk Audio, which was hands down the best concert ever.

Enjoy the tour and finding other ways to leave your mark on hotels!

I ♥ THE MEDICATE MUSIC VIDEO!!!! it was kind of like a music video that i thought up for Stiff Kittens where it would show you mixing music infront of a big screen flashing different shapes and patterns.... it was such an awesome music video! i want to design music videos for bands like AFI when i'm older!!!!

Karlye said...

I should hopefully be flying out to see you guys on tour, it's been two years since I last saw you guys! I'm very excited.

That apple pie looks absolutely delish, and from a Hyatt? That's impressive.

People who stay in that room should feel very privileged, who wouldn't want to find a disembodied cannon ball on the wall? Now every hotel room I stay in if the fire sprinkler has that affect when you turn a lamp on, I'll totally draw a cannonball. It'll be a sensation.

THAT VIDEO IS ACE, I love it. :) And how did you get blisters? From doing that fantastic solo too many times?

The Crash heart translates well onto the palm of that guy's hand, coolio.

Hopefully I'll see you on tour Jade!!!

The only apple pie I've ever eaten is the one at McDonald's which sucks. Have you tried those pies with mushroom soup and broccoli in it? Delicious. The Medicate video creeped me out a bit though. Was the golden blood thing a reference to Shakespeare's Macbeth? In one of the earlier scenes someone describes King Duncan has having golden blood and silver skin (the video was grayscale with some gold, the grey could have passed off as silver I guess). Or maybe the golden stuff wasn't meant to be blood? I don't know. You should have taken a picture of said cannonball that you drew on the ceiling.

I was front and center on the barricade at Epic in MN, until Gallows guitarist stood on my face and split my lip open. Had to be pulled out RIGHT BEFORE you came on to go clean the blood off, then I couldn't see you guys for the rest of the show. I did hear you though, so awesome. I live in Tulsa, so I will try it again on Nov 3rd!! Gallows man was super cool about making me bleed.

IMPORTANT:PLEASE give Smith my sincerest of all apologies from the bottom of my heart. Since I just am walking again on my own after being in a wheel chair, and Epic does not have a handicapped area/entrance, they were supposed to let me in early so I would not get trampled on the way in and find a safe spot. It didn't happen. They instead stuck me in the DF line. When Smith came out to check everyone's card, he just kept telling me to leave as I was trying to get a word in edge wise. I totally understand you probably have crappy people try to lie and sneak in, so I understand. Finally, all I could blurt out was"But,I just got out of a wheel chair, thank you for embarassing me though!" UGH (hiding my head in shame)My friend and assistant with me said he looked like I punched him in the gut as he said "this is my job and what I am supposed to do." I wanted to crawl under a rock, I felt so bad!!! Send him my love, and tell him that he is awesome and does his job REALLY WELL, and I truly did not mean ANY disrespect.Very awkward situation for both of us, not to mention the throngs of people staring at me! It was my first live show, or any real outing actually since my spinal surgery that left me without the use of my legs for a few years. I flew up because I said if I ever recovered, it was on my to do list because your music played a pivotal role in fighting to learn to walk again, and wanting to beat this. Hope to see you at the Tulsa show, hopefully I can be close without getting hurt!!! I have to! I wrote in my journal the day they told me they were going to amputate my legs (which thank God didn't happen) "I am going to walk again, and I am going to see AFI live to proove it!" Thanks for all you have done for me, you will never know the impact your music has had!

Dear Jade,

I didn't know of any other way to contact you other than twitter, the myspace that everybody knows that you guys don't normally update personally, or the DF website, so I'm commenting on your wonderful blog. :) I'll try to keep my mini letter relatively short and sweet because I know how busy you guys may be, (or maybe I'm just delusional and you guys have a lot of time on your hands, but how would I ever know that sort of thing? So I'm playing it safe. Hahah :)

I saw you guys play at the Starland Ballroom in NJ and I must say that you guys are amazing live. That had to of been, hands down, THE best concert that I've ever been to and not only because AFI means so much to me. I loved being around so many people that I shared such a strong common bond with.

It may seem really lame, but thank you so much for being so awesome and I look forward to seeing AFI play at the Cultural Center in Scranton, PA. :D

Keep being hella rad,
Elle

hey Jade,

I don't know if you're going to ever get a chance to read this considering you guys are on tour (and over 100 people commented on this post). But I just wanted to say how much I like the new album. Medicate is good as a single- the riff is very addicting, but End Transmission is definitely my favorite song. So far during the tour, I've seen you in Clifton Park (Northern Lights) and NJ (Starland Ballroom), and both performances were off the wall!!! I'm headed to the NYC one in my hometown in November and I can't wait to see you all again. There is something very special about being an AFI fan, you feel like you're part of a community. There is nothing like going to a concert and knowing 99% of the lyrics and singing them along with everyone else at the top of your lungs. By the way, I also wanna compliment you because you are a KILLER guitarist. All of your notes sounded crystal clear and I think Kill Caustic & The Leaving Song (part 1) represent an amazing range of melodies...alright I know this is long but after two amazing experiences this week I had to say something.

BTW the apple pie looks delicious. I love when restaurants give you a full dessert on a smaller scale. I hope you, Davey, Adam, and Hunter have some more amazing experiences (with and without food) on tour and looking forward to seeing you guys again in NYC.

Can't wait to see you guys in Toronto. I'm really pissed that the Sound Academy is a general seating facility, because then I'm not going to be able to see, or I'll get trampled. I'm kind of short. Okay, really short. I've been called an elf.

Anyways, random question...

If you could learn to play ANY other instrument than guitar (that includes bass) and drums, what would you play? I got asked that question a couple days ago. I'm a musician, kind of. But I play viloin and drums.

I'm trying to decide on if I like the new style of music. You guys go through so many different styles and phases it takes a while to adjust to them all, but I always like the stuff. <3

Favorite stuff is still December Underground and the Blaqk Audio stuff. :3 If you ever do a Blaqk Audio tour again, I'm going to become a hobo and follow you to all the concerts. XD Mwahahhaha.

Hey Jade, I honestly ROTFL when I read Hunter's joke about the fire marshal. Thank you for sharing that, it pretty much made my year.

So I know that this has nothing to do with your blog, but you never really post on the AskAFI forum and I have no idea when you'll do another Q&A blog and I had something I really wanted to ask you.

The other night I randomly remembered an episode of Loveline with you and Dave where straight edge came up. You had started to say something about being straight edge and dating someone who is not but they had to go to commercial and the subject was never brought up again. I'm really curious about what you have to say since I'm a 22 year old college kid in a school that's big on partying.

At any rate, if you're too busy on tour I totally understand. From what I hear the shows are going great and I sincerely hope you guys can make it to Washington State soon!

Medicate is a freaking awesome song!! The guitar part sounds really copmlicated, but you handled it AWESOME! Well, duh, of course you did. -_- Anyways, I'll see you in Scranton! ^_^

We just saw you in Sayerville, NJ and it was dynamite show. The incident with the kids sneaker was too funny. Gallows was a super start to the evening. Good luck and thanks for a great evening.

Don't you think you might be giving housekeeping a bit of a headache, what with the cannonball thing? I'd laugh if they never noticed.

I'm coming to Toronto to see you dudes at the Sound Academy. I'll be expecting sweat. Teehee.
