Just did an interview with AP about Art of Drowning. They're doing a piece about influential albums and they're covering some great stuff, At the Drive-In, Cursive, Deftones, Boys Sets Fire, Bright Eyes, etc.
Out of curiosity, what are your jams off that album, if any?

What the hell is with the layout. O_o
Anyway, off AOD I love A Story At Three, Catch A Hot One, and the Despair Factor most I think.... it's hard to pick.
The Despair Factor.. It's amazing. =]
The Days Of The Phoenix, first AFI song I ever heard (and disregarded until Decemberunderground came out, sorry about that Jade), now one of my favourites.
6 to 8
the Despair Factor
the Lost Souls
Wester
I have yet to hear 6 to 8 or the Despair Factor at a show but I hope that will soon change. Your solo in 6 to 8 still gives me chills after all these years.
This album definitely changed the way I listen to music. It opened My ears to a wider range of music.
Definitely, definitely '6 to 8'. I can listen to it a hundred times over and never, ever cease to be amazed by it.
Ever and a Day, 6 to 8, Wester, and Story at 3. Actually, the whole album is kind of my jam.
Oh yeah, and you guys kicked ass in Omaha last week <3
Ever and A Day and 6 to 8
:D
the lost souls
ever and a day
annddd
yeah, days of the phoenix :)
and yeah, that really really is the ugliest layout ever
at least you know that though and no-one has to pretend they like it XD
The Nephilim is definitely a song that that I jam a lot on that album...it needs to make an appearance live!
hmm.
The Lost Souls
The Days of the Phoenix
A Story at Three
Wester
The Despair Factor...
morningstar too...
such a great album!
6 to 8
love it.
It's so beautiful :)
The Lost Souls!
Despair Factor and Wester, though it's my favorite AFI album, so I'm partial to every track. =)
The Despair Factor
You of course make it about one of my favorite AFI albums (other being BSitS).
Well my top...couple, are Of Greetings and Goodbyes, The Despair Factor, Wester and The Nephilm. Oh, and 6 to 8, of course.
Yet almost none of these are ever played live. Sad.
Whoa, Jade, I saw the new layout and thought I was on the wrong page for a moment there.
Anyhow, jams off that album? For me, that would be "A Story At Three", "Morningstar", "Wester"... and pretty much every other song. I can't choose favorites with you guys.
And Jade, I drew a picture of you. It's here: http://maybemagical.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2o5ked
6 to 8 will always be one of my favorite songs off of The Art of Drowning.
And the layout's not so bad. Even if it kinda hurts your eyes to look at it. :)
The Days of The Pheonix
all the way. its my boyfriend and i's song and i just get put into a romantic world of dark rooms with crushed roses and flying ghosts when i listen to it. when i listen to it i think up a music video of a guy and a girl wandering thru a haunted mansion and they split up. Meanwhile, while theyre wandering around.. it shows flashbacks of what occured in the house. A man and a woman falling in love. The woman is murdered by a jealous ex boyfriend (In victorian times of course) and the man is so upset about losing his lover he shoots himself (on the "no one can see me" part). The guy and the girl in modern times keep seeing their ghosts and are scared into the ballroom of the old mansion.(Everybody's dancing). They huddle in the corner scared to death, then all of a sudden ghosts of the house float out and start dancing in the ballroom. In the end, the guy and girl lose their fright and start dancing with them as the song goes on. but when it ends the mood is cut off by a policeman shining a light at them.. he got the call someone was tresspassing...
HUfff huff... hope this wasn't too long of a comment. you are AWESOME if you read all of it :) I really want to be a storyboard designer for music videos one day... now you see why LOL
sacrifice theory. please start playing it live because that song is the epitome of excellence.
Smile. One of the most influential, inspiring and overall best [in terms of my life] AFI songs ever.
The Days Of The Phoenix will forever be my favorite AFI song.
The despair factor, definitely.
thanksagainforplayingitinchicagoforaaronandme
I loved Wester and Days of the Phoenix =)
The Days of the Phoenix!!!!!
Your blog template is......nice?
w.e we still all love you<3
Of Greetings and Goodbyes. Its the shit.
Art of Drowning was a masterpiece... My jams from that CD are The Nephilim, A Story at Three, and The Despair Factor. Although, I usually just listen to the whole thing from start to finish haha
The Despair Factor, The Lost Souls, A Winter's Tale, A Story At Three, great songs. Wish you guys would play more from this era and less pre-Black Sails
it's a tough choice, but I'd have to go with Morning Star.
I totally dig Wester and The Despair Factor
Ummm... why yes it is the ugliest layout EVER! XD
Jams from AOD (for me) include: Initiation, The Nephilim, Ever and A Day, The Days of the Pheonix, 6 to 8, The Despair Factor and Morningstar!
synesthesia
The Lost Souls and Catch a Hot One are some of my favs
the art of drowning is actually my fav album by you guys haha
the best songs are def the despair factor, wester, and my fav smile :D haha
LOL ugliest layout ever.
Hmm...I like different songs on that album for different reasons.
Tracks like "Smile" and "Battled" are great examples of the hardcore sound of your younger years. I miss that, by the way.
Some of them, like "The Lost Souls," "The Despair Factor," etc. were painfully Offspring. In a good way.
I like "The Days Of The Phoenix" and "Wester" because they both embody what I consider to be the "classic AFI sound." The former especially showcases Davey's voice. Punk singers are usually not that talented, so when you have a voice like Davey Havok's or Dexter Hollands, it's wise to put that on display - sets you apart.
"Of Greetings And Goodbyes" and "Forever And A Day" both hinted at styles used on forthcoming albums...so definitely a mixed bag.
What are YOUR fave songs from that album?
The Lost Souls
Of Greetings and Goodbyes
Smile
Wester
Despair Factor
They get to me.
Ps. The new layout is fug. :D
The Lost Souls

Ahh, definitely a classic. Wester is one of my top favorite AFI songs. Can never get bored of this album. Ever.
Off of Art Of Drowning, that's my favorite album from you guys. My favorite jams off of it are The Nephilim, Ever and a Day, Morningstar, Smile, and the Despair Factor, but I love that whole album. :D
off Art Of Drowning?...ummm have to be "The Days Of The pheonix"it is also in my top 5 fav songs, also "The Lost Souls" those have to be my favs...and like i said in my like last 3 posts and not to get repeative but come to FL with Green day! I mite have to fly to Georgia lot of time and money but im mite have to do it!
my personal favorites from the art of drowning would be ever and a day and days of the phoenix.
Sacrifice Theory, Wester, 6 to 8, Days of the Phoenix, Morningstar, and The Lost Souls are some of the freshest jamzzz off that album, IMO.
I do have to say my absolute favorite is Catch a Hot One. That's probably in my top five AFI songs of all time.
So awesome to see one of my favorite albums receiving recognition along such great artists! Definitely well deserved!
I like all the songs, but standout tracks would have to be '6 to 8', Morningstar and The Days of The Phoenix.
my second favorite afi album, just behind black sails
but its actually pretty hard not to love them all
What AREN'T my jams off that album?! Although the first 4 seconds of "Smile" - pretty much full of win. If I HAD to pick one it would be Sacrifice Theory.
Despair Factor and Days of the pheonix.
Off of AOD?! 6 to 8 fo' shizzle. Love that song with all my heart. You guys should play it live... ;)
WOOTWOOT Deftones= love.
I don't have a specific favorite song off that album. Pretty much every song on there is absolutely amazing. <3
And here I thought AP forgot what good music was. Hah. Congrats.
The Lost Souls, Sacrifice Theory, A Story at Three, The Despair Factor
You guys played The Despair Factor in Chicago for our group of people that came from 10 different states. I'll never forget it.
That whole album is a damn masterpiece Jade. When it came out I was just floored by it...but if I had to pick ONE song off it...Wester, hands down. You guys have to revisit that sound before you throw in the AFI towel. Please. At least for me.
Jams? JAMS?! Darling, when I think of AOD I don't think of jamming. lol
There are so many great songs on that album, but I think my favorite is 6 to 8. It's about you guys and all of us and everyone. It's about youth and art and the road and the new day and friends and hope, and always brings a tear to my eye.
See? I AM capable of being serious sometimes.
♥♥
i love wester, the nephilim, sacrifice theory
It was a great album, there were too many awesome songs. I was gonna make a top 5 list but I honestly can't decide. It's kinda funny I've only recently come back to AoD/BSITS and I'm loving every second of both.
My favorite from AoD is probably still The Days of the Phoenix though. Such a lovely song!
I always forget how much I love AOD and every time I listen to it it blows me away. It's hard to pick favorites because I feel like the whole thing flows so well. Morningstar, 6 to 8 and The Despair Factor are up there though.
HAH! The layout!!
JAMS: Of Greetings & Goodbyes, The Lost Souls (most played on my itunes from AOD), Wester (my favourite when I first listed to the album), The Despair Factor (that's a good one too). Also, Catch a Hot One... but they're all good, you know?
Wait no, i actually really like them all... but yeah, those ones have to be my favourites.
Man, I saw that you were asking people about Art of Drowning and I HAD to respond because that is one of THE most important records to me IN THE WORLD. I love all of your work but Black Sails, Art of Drowning, and Sing The Sorrow sort of form a triumvirate of inspiration for me. As far as Art of Drowning specifically, I don't think there is a single song that I wouldn't call "one of my jams" it is one of those cds that can cycle all the way through like three times before I have realized it because I get so into it. If I had to pinpoint a few top ones though, they would go as follows: 1.) Sacrifice Theory, everytime I feel like giving up on my art I listen to this song and then I have to try again. 2.) The Lost Souls 3.)Story At Three 4.) Days of The Phoenix, "Our dreams seamed not far away" hits me every time I hear it, I never get tired of it.
5.) 6 to 8, I love the guitar solo in this one. This song builds so beautifully. 6.) The Despair Factor, I am sure I have a lot of company in having this one as a favorite. I have always believed that humans fundamentally can never truly know each other, they can only know their own perceptions. This is a very frusterating condition always looking into mirky mirrors. If we have any hope of breifly feeling like we are not alone it is through creative expression. The Despair Factor really speaks to that part of me.
"The Despair Factor" is one of my faves ever from y'all...love the dynamics in the song and the bridge is one epic climax.
Also really love "Wester" and "6 to 8." Saw you guys play "6 to 8" in Minneapolis in October and was reminded how awesome that song is...peace.

6 to 8
6 to 8
to be honest idk for me it all depends on what i really like to listen to the most like with art of drowning it would be days of the phoenix and morningstar but other than that it all depends on what really like to listen to
Of Greetings and Goodbyes is my favourite from that album, with The Days of the Phoenix coming a very close second. <3.
Never gets olddd <333.
Hmmm that's a hard one, I would have to say my favorite is "the lost souls"
but that's my favorite album soooo any of them are great :) you should really play up in VT
Wester!! One of my favorites of all time! I almost died when you guys played it last time you were in Atlanta...
WESTER!!
Of Greetings and Goodbyes.
My absolute favorite song of ALL time, Morningstar.
That album alone totally changed my life.
Omg. Wester and The Lost Souls.
... and does A Winter's Tale Count? :3
The Despair Factor and Wester. No doubt.
Wow hard to believe how long it's been. I still get the chorus of 'Of Greetings and Goodbyes" in my head occasionally
Days of the Phoenix, Ever and a Day, 6 to 8, and Story at Three are the songs I always skip to when I'm driving. My friends hate them. They can't understand the words. Isn't that pathetic? The lyrics are a piece of cake compared to something like Minor Threat (which is essentially inaudible, but still fantastic) or even Black Sails.
They need their hearing checked.
"Ever and a Day" is my personal favorite track from AofD, though "Morningstar" ranks a VERY close second.
By the way, what a stellar and sweet new "ugly" blog layout!
Art of Drowning was an amazing album and a stepping stone. ever and a day, despair factor and 6 to 8 are my fav probably, i love you jade. I can not wait for bright black heaven, please come to seattle please please
Well I can def listen to tht whole album from front to back and and really do enjoy the whole thing... But the top three for me are The Lost Souls, 6-8, and Of Greetings And Goodbyes, hence my df board name (goodbyes4good).
Endless love and respect,
melissa
xoxoxoxo
AOD was the first AFI album I bought and the very first song I learned the lyrics to was "A Story at Three." "The Despair Factor," and "Of Greetings and Goodbyes" are flippin awesome, but then again I love the whole album, so they're all my jams.
Must say I loved every song on the whole album, can't pick!
Lovin' the new layout ;P
Wow, um, that's a hard decision.
I would have to say 6 to 8 is definately worth mentioning.
I just LOVE that album!
In 6 to 8, instead of "On the way I saw three hours of sleep" I hear "Hugged a whale. I saw, thought I was a tree"
Ever and a Day, The Days of the Phoenix and Morningstar.. and The Despair Factor. All are wonderful, though. So glad I've gotten to hear the first two of those played live.
Same here.
'The Despair Factor.'
I live and breathe this song.
LOVE you guys!!! ;)
-Vanessa
6 to 8 and Morningstar would have to be my AoD favorites.
Ok I named a song off the wrong album, oops.
Smile,Wester, Of Greetings and Goodbyes, and Ever and a Day
Art of Drowning is such an awesome record... hard to pick just one... Let's see, I absolutely adore Days of the Phoenix, but also Sacrifice Theory and the Despair Factor.
still my favorite, most life-changing record of all time. every song means something different to me at different stages of my life. in fact, in 2001 my middle school band covered DOTP at a school talent show.
but all this should tell you guys is to play more songs off of that record. i'd pay a hundred dollars for a ticket just to see you play the lost souls or something.
Wester is my fave. DOTF is awesome, it invokes nostalgia even though I was never there! Hahaha <3
I love this album, the song i crave depends on my mood, but my go-to songs are Lost Souls, Of Greetings and Goodbyes, Wester, Ever & A Day, and Despair Factor.
My sister and I have seen you guys 2 times this tour, and have gotten to see Wester for the first time! I listen to you guys every day, and i STILL get goosebumps!
6 to 8 is my favourite, followed by The Days Of The Phoenix. It's my favourite AFI album :)
Morningstar is pretty much my favourite song to play on acoustic guitar right now, too. The little riff between the verse and chorus is awesome.
x
Catch A Hot One, 6 to 8 and Of Greetings and Goodbyes.
Ever and a Day is my absolute favorite!
AND Morning Star....ahhhh now I want to listen to them right now!
1. The Despair Factor
2. Of Greetings and Goodbyes
3. Sacrifice Theory
4. 6 to 8
Only one? Impossible, that record is flawless! <3
Morningstar, The Days Of The Phoenix and Wester are my favourites. Mere words cannot express my excitement when you guys played Wester live. Speaking of that show, I have one of the best pictures to show you. The link to it's in my name. Anyways, it looks like you're about to take out Davey with your guitar. The irony? I took that picture during Miss Murder.
My jams are: Of greeting and goodbyes, Days of the phoenix, 6 to 8, and Wester. We need to heard more of the older AFI songs on tour. :)
OOO tough one... but Ever and a Day, Wester........oh the mind boggles cuz the whole disk is classic.
I have no idea...
Don't crucify me when i say....
Uhm...
Thinking...
Thinking some more
(**long pause** I'll be an interview nightmare with that)
I do not know - Had to listen to the cd again AND Let me tell you it was hard just B/CuZ rhapsody decide it was going to be a
punkb!tch to me on my iphone today.
But I do remember the first day I bought the cd. I was somewhat fresh off the plane (move to Vegas in 00. Random site seeing after job interviews and we stop at Tower records on Charleston (they're no longer there :(
I was just browsing since muscially I was just Lost! Lost I tell yah. So I'm in the "A" section flipping thru cds after cds... ABBA,ACE of Base ect ect ect and I stop and look "AFI" I think to myself: huh? hey I have Answer that I wonder...
Told Tower emp to put it one lemme sample the ware. The guy even put the volumn way the hell up - it was crazy, a black girl rocking out in a busines suit *Sigh* Ah the good ole days. I bought it and I still have it. I think that answer your question.
and seriously your layout page look robotic and that is so funny cuZ on Yo Gabba Gabba there 10am episode was about Plex 'THE MAGIC ROBOT!'...Can I get a Yo Gabba Gabba
Smile. Wester.
lost souls <3
days of the phoenix <3
morningstar <3
Days of the Phoenix for sure than I have a bunch of tracks from various albums of yours on one CD so I don't know what came from The Art of Drowning.
This might explain what my favorite jams from that album are:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/DrEvil6115/TouchUpTattoo.jpg
However, Phoenix, Sacrifice, Greetings, Wester, Souls, Despair, 6 to 8 and Morningstar are mah favz.
Umm I would have to say
The Lost souls
Ever and a Day
Days of the Phoenix
6 to 8
Best songs off that album. :)
Fave ending: The Despair Factor
Fave bridge: Wester
Fave song overall: Days of the Phoenix
Gaul, this is my favorite album, so it's impossible to choose... 6 to 8, Despair Factor, Days of the Phoenix... So hard! What about you?
Wester and the Nephilim are probably my two favorites.
6 to 8
Wester
Ever and a Day
Morningstar
<3
the whole album from start to finish plus the b-sides
Of Greetings And Goodbyes, Sacrifice Theory, Smile, Catch A Hot One. The Art Of Drowning is my favorite AFI album. 2nd is Shut Your Mouth And Open Your Eyes
yeah....odd layout. I agree. it's just new.
Ever and a Day. That song is amazing - you guys should play it live more often.
Morningstar definitely.
6 to 8,A Story At Three, Morningstar.... All, really. They're all such amazing songs.
Days Of The Phoenix, 6 To 8 and The Despair Factor. Phoenix was the first song I ever heard by you guys and it left me in awe. From there I had to track down everything. The drums for the intro of The Despair Factor just makes me go FUCK. YEAH. right of the bat and the song just gets more and more intense.
6 To 8...is a rather special song for me. It pretty much hits the nail on the head for my experience as a gig goer. For my favourites and anyway. Thus why it was Begin Transmission song and I kept listening to it on Soundwave giggling going "saw 5 hours of sleep? Fuck man, I wish!" :) I'm lame I know. Tis the way to be!
Anyone pls follow me I have NO followers so feel free to follow me,and Jade does Marissa have a Facebook b/c someone messaged me back and siad they were her so just wondering
the lost souls and days of the phoenix. maybe catch a hot one...may despair factor...damn, they're all good! 6 to 8 rocked too...the nephilim...of greetings and goodbyes...
Ever and a day is the shit!!
and despair factor
Your current layout make me think of these:
"I'll encourage your smile, I'd expect you won't cry!"
"Lady gaga is a numbskull"
sweet layout
6 to 8 is a rad song.
every time i listen to it o my ipod i think of peanut butter. it must be like a subliminal message.
Nephilim
Ever And A Day
Days Of The Phoenix
Morning Star
Despair Factor
6 to 8
Wester
A Story at three
Really I love the entire album, but those are some of my favies. =]
actually, can I say that I love all of the songs?
Despair Factor, 6 to 8, and the Nephilim
Personally, I love all the songs. My favourites are: The Despair Factor, Wester, Of Greetings and Goodbyes, Catch A Hot One, and The Nephilim. I would love to hear Despair Factor or Of Greetings And Goodbyes live.
Smile <3
Of Greeting's and goodbye's. And Smile. Sacrifice theory as well. I usually listen to that album when I'm about to take on legion's of ninja's.
I miss the ugly layout. It was just so fabulously ugly.
6 to 8 is my favorite but I like the whole album, really.
And Dream of Waking. Even though that's only on the AOD vinyl....I still love it.
Also Jade, when is this AP issue expected to be coming out??
I have soup, you're jealous. Smileyface.
OOOO tuffie... Ever and a Day, Wester...the whole disc is classic, and along with STS, reminds me why I get up in the mornings and feed the cat.
Ever and a Day, Smile, Days of the Phoenix and Morningstar.
You're making me pick my favorite song? :(((
That's like trying to choose, out of all the David Bowies in the whole world, which one is the best ever.
How could you. (!!!!!)
Maybe a smash of 6 to 8, Despair Factor, and Morningstar?
Sobbyface, I can't even listen to just one of the songs by themselves, it has to be the whole album start to finish!
days of the phoenix!!!
Morningstar. Play it at the Irvine show! Please Jade Pleeeeease!!
I always perfered Black sails from the two. They both have similar sounds but Black Sails always had more of my "jams" on it so to speak.
From AoD, I love of Greatings and Goodbyes, Morningstar, and Ever and a Day, Wester, and Days of the Phoenix. I think the question would be more easily answered if I were to say which ones I don't like as much. Because then it's only one or two.
But yes, as far as "Jams" go, definitely Days of the Phoenix and Wester!
I'm so glad you guys played Wester last time I saw you in concert too. It really made my night.
I don't know if I could pick one track. This is my favorite AFI album, period. I'm not keen on Battled, but I think that's because I fell asleep listening to AOD once and it woke me up, scaring the crap out of me in the process. (Although, now that I think about it, I've always been fond of Sacrifice Theory).
Lost Souls... second AFI song I heard. First being Total Immortal, due to the Offspring cover, which led me on a search to see who exactly they were covering. The whole album rocks though, pick any song...
You know, asking AFI fans what their favorites are (in general or from a specific album) is like disassembling a bomb. You could get lucky, but chances are you're going to make heads explode.
Smile, fo sho. ;)
6 to 8 and Days of the phoenix
Morningstar
Ever And A Day
The Lost Souls
Despair Factor
The Days Of Phoenix
6 to 8
A Story At Three
Wester
Wait I just realized I'm about to list just about every song... sorry about that. They basically all just win at life.
Hmmmm......Of Greetings and Goodbyes, 6 to 8, and Morningstar would be the top three, I think
The Lost Souls
The Nephilim
Ever and a Day
Of Greetings and Goodbyes
A Story At Three
Catch a Hot One
Wester
6 to 8
The Despair Factor
Morningstar
So basically, almost the whole album. =D But if I had to pick a favourite out of those, I'd narrow it down to a tie between Morningstar, Wester, 6 to 8, and Catch a Hot One. It's so hard for me to choose, because it's SUCH a fantastic album.
Days of Phoenix, Wester, Of Greetings and Goodbyes, A Story at Three, and Morningstar are my favorites. AOD was the first album I ever heard and still to this day is my favorite.
WESTER!
WESTER
''Ever and a day'' and ''The despair factor'' ;)
Morningstar is probably my favourite. A long long time ago, a very special person dedicated it to me, so it also brings me good old memories.
Susan
So i feel pretty sketch right now leaving this as anonymous, but I'm not allowed to have an account on here..XP
Anyways, this has absolutely nothing to do with your post, but I just heard about what happened with that girl you were dating. And I just wanted to say sorry bc that really sucks =/ I mean I know it had nothing to do with it but that just makes me sad that people do those kinds of things.
But on a happier note I have listened to almost all of AFI's albums and my favorite is Sing the Sorrow, probably just because it was the first AFI album I listened to and it's awesome :)
im getting my final session of a leg sleeve done tomorrow of this album as well as most other albums.
Of Greetings and Goodbyes is probably my favourite AOD song. And I have to say Despair Factor too because the ending is just... amazing.
The Art of Drowning is my favourite AFI album. :)
The Despair Factor and Sacrifice Theory
Definitely one of my top 5 albums of all time. It's awesome that they're putting a spotlight on it. Of Greetings and Goodbyes is by far one of the greatest, as well as Wester, and Battled is up there as well.
6 To 8 and Wester. I never get tired of them.
Nice new layout! :)
AOD is one of my favourites.... Can I say the whole album?
No?
Alright I'll try and pick.... *pulls hair out in frustration* XD
-Of Greetings And Goodbyes
-Catch A Hot One
-Wester
-6 to 8
-A Story At Three
-The Days of the Phoenix
There you go! :) I narrowed it down best I could! Haha
um damn dood, taken it back! I heart all of those songs very dearly. The Despair Factor.
:-( listening to it now makes me sooo nostalgic!
<3 Tiffstar
um damn dood, taken it back! I heart all of those songs very dearly. The Despair Factor.
:-( listening to it now makes me sooo nostalgic!
<3 Tiffstar
smile and wester!
Wester. No doubt about it. XD
6 to 8, Wester, & Ever & a Day. <3
DotP has been one of my favorite songs since I heard it.
Recently, however, Despair Factor, 6 to 8, and Of Greetings and Goodbyes are dominating my playlist.
I think you'd have the entire DF section of the crowd melt if you threw Of Greetings and Goodbyes in the setlist, say, on the Mountain View final tour date in September. Just a hunch... *winkwink*
The Art of Drowning has some of my favorite songs of all time on it! Wester, Despair Factor, Days of the Phoenix and The Lost Souls are probably my favorites off that CD.
Definitely "Wester" and "Ever and a Day".
Something about "Wester" spoke to me the first time I heard it. I knew it would be one of my favorites in my heart when I heard it live back at a Vegas show in 2007. Nearly sent me to tears when I heard it!
"Ever and a Day" has an amazing introduction that I still haven't learned yet. In addition, Davey brooding, haunting voice in the first verse sent chills down my spine when I heard it live at another Vegas show, but this time in 2010 (I drive out to Vegas too much just to see you guys live!). The lyrics to the chorus are just sweet and I love to sing them whenever I get the chance to.
6 to 8 or Morningstar for me. You probably get ridiculous requests like this all the time. I was wondering if you could dedicate a song to my girlfriend Dani at your August 18th date with Greenday. Preferably End Transmission (It's "our" song). I'm Justin, by the by.
Smile, Wester, 6 To 8 and The Despair Factor are my absolute favourites.
It was exciting to learn that one of my drama teachers (by the name of Al Flower) at acting school loved this album, too.
I think we can all agree that Wester is the best thing ever.
But I also really love Sacrifice Theory. And to the person who said Synesthesia...are you SURE that's off of The Art of Drowning?
Had a dream about you Jade. You smiled and waved to me and my hubby in a restaurant. I think you so happy we let you eat in peace. Either that or you knew I was your anon blog poster. :D
A Story at Three!!
AOD is an amazing album.. like all of AFI's album I have to go with A Story At Three, Despair Factor and then the rest of the songs because you can just pick and choose from this album.
That album was huge for me when I was just starting to listen to you guys. The biggest songs probably were, & still are, "The Lost Souls," "The Nephilim," "Ever & a Day," "Of Greetings & Goodbyes," "6 to 8," "The Despair Factor," & of course, "Morningstar."
Actually, my blog got its name from "Ever & a Day."
wester, ever and a day, the despair factor, 6 to 8.
but it is my favourite AFI album, so pretty much the whole thing.
Days of the Phoenix
The Lost Souls
Sacrifice Theory
Catch a Hot One
and Wester
really wanna hear these songs live someday in socal
Wester, Despair Factor, The Lost Souls, and The Days Of The Phoenix are my favorites. This album was like impossible to for me to find but after a year I found it at an F.y.e. store yesterday along with Very Proud Of Ya, and Answer That and Stay Fashionable but I could only get one so AOD was my first choice... sorry for rambling Jade....

Jade, what's up with that one post? I'm guessing nothing. I'm hoping nothing. Take care! We all love you here!!
Catch a Hot ONe.
The Lost Souls, The Nephilim, Ever and a Day, Sacrifice Theory, Of Greetings and Goodbyes, 6 to 8 & Morningstar. (Even though the title of that last one makes me hungry for some delicious soy products :) Also, Dream of Waking is one of my favorites!

6 to 8
Fave song?? All of them;)
I am happy to read that Art of Drowning is on that list! What an honor!--that album has also been the inspiration for most of my AFI tattoos.
I am very much a fan of the Despair Factor.
Congrats, Jade, et al on all of your success.
Despair Factor, Wester, Of Greetings and Goodbyes, The Lost Souls.
Oh, also. This seems as if it is going to be an interesting article. Any idea of which issue it will be in?
Well considering that every single song off of AOD can be seen as one of my "jams", I'd say it's hard to choose since it's amazing as a whole. BUT since The Despair Factor is my favorite song OF ALL TIME, I guess that basically answers it. Seriously. Words can't describe how much I love that song.
...I got printed in Kerrang! magazine this week for recommending AOD as 'my favourite new album'. I don't really know how it qualifies as new, but I thought you'd appreciate it :)
Ever And A Day
My all time favorite AFI song :)
That is my FAVORITE ALBUM OF ALL TIME. Of Greetings and Goodbyes and The Nephilim for sure.
A Story at Three was my favourite song for the longest time and it's still my number one pick from TAoD. From a playing perspective Sacrifice Theory is both my, and the band I play in's jam; it's just crammed with energy, crowds respond to that really well which just works perfectly with the lyrical content, also our bassist thinks it's one of the best bass lines that's come out in the last fifteen years.
The Art of Drowning has always been the album that I think transitions really well in a live setting, the group interaction is at its peak here and the energy is just at that perfect level. It's a shame it's such a rare album to see at your shows because I assure you, play any one song off The Art of Drowning and I'd be the contentest (I think I just made up a word) chap the world's ever known.
All of them! Especially Wester, Morningstar, and the Despair Factor.
Love the entire cd, but I think my faves, along with Days of the Phoenix of course, are Of Greetings and Goodbyes and Story at Three
definitely Wester, the lyrics truly speak to me in that song. Also the days of the phoenix, which the day before my high school graduation a month ago I was listening to in my car and I started to cry because of its poignancy. "Our dreams seemed not far away" just seems to fit so well into the theme of leaving something and starting something new, i.e. graduation to college, workforce, military, whatever. Also, I love 6 to 8, it really opened my eyes to AFI as band who truly cares about their fans in an intimate way.
Wester
The Nephilim
The Despair Factor
Morningstar
Days of the Phoenix
Honestly, i thought Initiation was FRIGGIN AWESOME! I lurved it so much!

The whole cd is "One Big... Jam". It is my favorite cd of all. Takes me to when I was a young teen, I still listen to it frequently, it's the cd I listen to the most by you guys. Love it, can't go wrong. When I listen to it I live it. Definitely the most influential album for me.
